Ken Rosenthal has a nice piece on why Carlos Quentin is such a hitting machine right now. Unfortunately, the article doesn't address when (or if) Jerry Owens is going to return for my AL keeper league team.
Who's off: Nobody
First pitch: 7:05 p.m. ET in both leagues. Here's the full schedule.
Pitcher to start: Bartolo Colon gave us another strong outing last night. He's apparently throwing fastballs almost exclusively, but so far, so good. The Red Sox Web site notes that Clay Buchholz is going to stay at Triple A for at least one more start, and he can thank Colon for that.
Tonight we're going to go with Cleveland's Aaron Laffey (6.9 percent owned) against the White Sox. He's given up two runs in his last 28 innings.
On to the news:
- OF Jay Bruce, who is widely regarded as baseball's top prospect, is expected to make his major league debut tonight against the Pirates. The 21-year-old Bruce has been destroying the International League (.364 BA, 10 HR, 37 RBI, 34 R, 8 SB), and people in the game think he's ready to contribute now. If you're looking for a red flag, he struck out 45 times in 184 at bats this season, but that's not scaring me away. Bruce is owned in just 7.1 percent of FOXSports.com leagues, and you should make that number go up as soon as you're finished reading this paragraph unless your fantasy outfield is loaded. It's fun to be the first to own a player like this.
- Angels 3B Chone Figgins could be on his way back to the DL. Ugh.
- Tigers DH Gary Sheffield left Monday's game with an oblique injury, and his official status is day-to-day.
- The Blue Jays' Web site reports that SS David Eckstein should be back in the lineup tonight. By the way, when searching the Toronto Star site for more news on this, I saw an ad banner that said WIN TICKETS TO SEE TINA TURNER. Really? I mean, she's 68 years old, for God's sake.
- If you own Hank Blalock, don't expect to see him in the Rangers' lineup until Friday at the earliest.
- Our Milwaukee correspondent, Mark Stevenson, noted yesterday that Bill Hall is now platooning with Russell Branyan at third base, and Hall's not happy about it. If you're in an NL-only league, Branyan's got some power.
- Red Sox 1B Kevin Youkilis missed Monday's game with a hand injury, but it doesn't sound serious.
- Chad Cordero played catch yesterday! Yeah!
- Fantasy team wrecker Francisco Liriano got shelled again at Triple A on Monday.
- Wandy Rodriguez, who has been out for a month with a groin injury, is Wednesday's probable starter for the Astros.
- If you're a prospect watcher, the Indians' Web site reports that pitcher Adam Miller is on the disabled list (again) with a callus on his middle finger.
- If you own a Phillies' hitter other than Pat Burrell, you probably had a good day Monday.
- Here's your daily Braves bullpen update.
- The Mets' Web site reports that Pedro Martinez will make his first start of the season one week from today in San Francisco.
- Paul Konerko was back in the White Sox lineup Monday, but his thumb might keep bothering him for awhile.
See you tomorrow.
