I'm hoping someone can shed some light on an issue I just can't wrap my head around...
Why would the Lions think about drafting Aaron Curry?
Yes, I understand he is regarded as the most solid player in the draft.
Yes, I know his contract numbers probably won't be as high as a QBs.
Yes, I know the Lions make some strange picks.
But the problem for me is that right now the Lions have two of the better OLBs in the game in Peterson and Simms, and both are young, prosperous, and signed.
I also have read that Curry is projected to have the ability to play inside or outside linebacker, but he played outside linebacker. Why would you spend a top pick on a guy who you would have to shift over to another position? It just doesn't make ANY sense to me.
Add to that, the ILB position is almost never drafted very highly, and if they really really want someone to come in to start at MLB, either Maualuga or Lauirinitis is likely to be at spot 20... and guess what? THEY'VE ACTUALLY PLAYED MLB!!!
Someone help me out here. My only consolation so far is that it might be the world's worst attempt at a smoke screen.
