Dear Chris,
Thanks for stepping up this season when Griese went down. You demonstrated that you're a talented QB. It's evident that watching video with your dad when he played with the Giants helped you. But my question to you now is whether your ass is ready to warm up the Buccaneers' bench again?
As I said, you're a talented, young QB. Yet, for a third-year pro you still look like a rookie. I'm sure that your brain, hidden under all your nappy hair, is full with lots of football knowledge. But that doesn't mean anything if you don't use such knowledge. A prospect without fulfillment is always nothing more than a prospect.
You had your chance to shine and you didn't take it. You're luckier than good. Luck rather than talent allowed you to lead the Bucs to the playoffs. Being lucky is not enough for a QB in the NFL. That was proven in the playoff game against the Redskins. A good QB hammers its opponents early in the game and then demolishes them during the second half. If the opponent turns out to be good enough as for the game to come down to one last play, then a good QB steps up and makes that play. But believing that miracle comebacks in important games is enough for the NFL is a huge mistake.
You definitely matured late in the season, but that's not enough to be the starting QB in a team, especially in the Buccaneers organization. If you don't believe me, then check Sean King's career. I'm not sure if Griese will be the starting QB for the Bucs next season, but I doubt it'll be you because you're simply not ready.
Please take this off-season to review the games you started and to continue improving. After that learn all the plays in the playbook very well, it's evident you still have doubts in some of them. Also, begin running; it's amazing how many first downs you could have gotten for the Bucs if you would have stepped out of the pocket. Finally, check out the benches at Raymond James Stadium and get your ass used to them. Believe me you'll be warming them next season.
Thank the Bucs for the opportunity this season; remember your memorable comeback drive against the Redskins; and sit down with papa Simms for, hopefully, some constructive criticism. I'll look for you around the Bucs bench next season. You seem to be a great person, but not a good enough QB. Good luck bro', you deserve it!
Best wishes,
JasonRod
