OK, the goal went home off a beach ball and never should have been allowed Saturday at Sunderland.
OK, Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres didn't play.
And, OK, Liverpool has a history of rising to the biggest of challenges.
OK, Reds' fans: Here it is, challenge week.
Lyon has six points in the bank and Liverpool has three, beaten away at Fiorentina on the last Group E match day in a strangely subdued performance. Since then the EPL challenge may well have gone onto life-support and the weekend's game is against somebody called Manchester United.
So tonight the Reds need three points not only to stay in the CL hunt, but also to bring some much-needed confidence to a side reeling no matter what boss Rafa Benitez says. Lyon, for sure, will no doubt be delighted with a draw but that's not usually their approach to Euro games.
It has to be just as hot for The Special One, whose team has started with two unimpressive draws in the CL and is at home to Dynamo Kiev tonight. Since Barcelona figures to collect three points at home against Rubin Kazan, Inter will need a similar result to stay in touch with the defending European champions in Group F. The Ukrainians could take a huge step toward unexpected qualification if they can upset Jose Mourinho's team tonight in the San Siro.
Then there's Rangers ... OK, we mention them because the represent the Auld Sod, but that's about all you can say, isn't it? Even boss Walter Smith has been making noises about the abject decline of Scottish football even as he trumpets the idea that his team and arch rival Celtic should be playing somewhere -- anywhere! -- else than the SPL. Tonight it's quite simple. Rangers host the outsiders from Romania and begin the evening five points behind leaders Sevilla in Group G. Failure to win at Ibrox would probably sentence Rangers to a sidelines seat next spring because they still face away games in Romania and Spain. VfB Stuttgart, only a point ahead of both Rangers and Unirea in the Group of Wimps, will be hoping to produce something against Sevilla to jump start their own challenge
Group H can be all but locked up by Arsenal if they take their best form to Holland for the match against AZ. Suggestion to Arsene Wenger: don't use that "let's start two behind" approach which was unveiled earlier in Liege. It's set up for Olympiacos to strengthen it's bid, too. They host the unimpressive Belgians.

would be nice if the channel will be a little more impartial to uk/english teams and will learn where a team is from before going on air. As in todays news the lady should know a team is from romania rather then hungary
