Today is the one-year anniversary of my first post on this blog. I used to have another blog where I often talked about sports, but my readership consisted mostly of my non-sports fan friends. I had come across the FoxSports blogs on internet searches in the past, and I thought it seemed like a place that would be better suited for my writings. After a year I can definitely say that I'm happy with my decision to start posting here. Not only have I learned a lot about sports from my fellow bloggers, but I've also gained confidence in my writing. I consider myself fortunate to be a part of this community.
In honor of this occasion I thought I'd go through my archives and highlight some my favorite posts. I feel that my writing is sort of hit-or-miss, so if you want to see the best stuff from my first year this post will save you from having to wade through the muck.
Inside the Head of a Patriots Fan, January 18. It was only my second post, but it remains one of my favorites to this day. I'm not usually successful when I try to be funny, but in this case I think I came close. I was disappointed that so many people didn't catch the satire and actually thought I was a Patriots fan.
Top Ten Uniforms I Wish They'd Bring Back, January 28. I put a lot of effort into this one and I was pleased with how it turned out.
Top Ten Uniforms I Hope Never Change, January 31. This one was inspired by the previous post, and it got a much bigger response. Unfortunately, one of these teams did change their uniforms a few months after I posted it.
Improper Pronunciation, March 2. I've always liked this one even though it didn't get very many comments.
Two Reasons I'm Happy That the Bulls Won, April 29. After the Bulls beat the Heat in the Playoffs I was happy not only that my team was advancing, but that the Heat hype was over. This ended up being my first featured post, so it certainly represents a milestone in my life as a blogger.
What's So Bad About Being Hated?, June 28. I was thinking about how some people take it personally when their teams are hated and I ended up with this post.
Reggie Miller Should Stay Retired, August 10. Apparently Reggie took my advice.
NFL Opening Kickoff: Who Do You Want to See?, August 22. Another one of my absolute favorites, and my second featured post. I found several message boards that picked up on it (including one I actually post on), and they were mostly happy that I gave their favorite artists some good press. I think it was the response to this post that made me realize how widely read my writing on this blog could potentially be.
A Trip Down Memory Lane: My Very First Team, September 14. This is where I revealed one of my darkest secrets: The first team I ever considered myself a fan of was Canadian.
Seven Reasons I'm Rooting For the Indians in Game 7, October 21. Another featured post. With this one I set a personal record for the most comments received.
The 2007 Season Ends on a Low Note, October 29. Probably the saddest thing I've ever written on this blog.
So Long, Tampa Bay Devil Rays, November 10. I bid the Devil Rays farewell and hoped that a brighter future was in store with their new name.
Bonds Brings Out the Worst in Us, November 17. This post was something that had been on my mind for a long time. After Barry Bonds was indicted I saw several hateful comments directed at him and I figured it was time to write down those thoughts.
I'll Take the 1985 Bears, December 11. I'd been hearing comparisons between the 2007 Patriots and the 1985 Bears and I realized that someone had to set the record straight on why the Patriots will never be as great.
So there you have it. I'd say my blog has had some decent moments, but I'm hoping that over the next year they won't be so few and far between. Thanks go out to all of you who've made my first year here at the FoxSports blogs an enjoyable experience. Here's to another year of great sports discussions.
