    VANDY'S 1-2 PUNCH

Monday, December 24, 2007, 10:40 AM EST [Vanderbilt]

Vanderbilt is one of the nine undefeated teams left standing in the D-1 ranks and everyone is crediting Aussie freshman forward Andrew "A.J." Ogilvy for the quick start.

Commodores coach Kevin Stallings supports the 6-foot-10 big man as much as anyone, but he's quick to point out who the team MVP is thus far.

"A.J.'s been great and has had an unbelievable start, but Shan Foster has for sure been our most valuable player," Stallings said. "It's not even up for debate."

The 6-foot-6 senior wing is averaging 20.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and is shooting a sizzling 55 percent from long distance.

"He's also our best defender," Stallings added.

In the last three games, Foster is averaging 20.7 points per game while attempting just 10 shots in each.

"If his coach had half a brain, he'd get him more shots," Stallings joked.

Stallings said that his team's point guard play - with Jermaine Beal and freshman Keegan Bell - has been as important as the play of Ogilvy and Foster.

"They have been taking care of the ball and both have been solid," Stallings said.

    TYREKE EVANS DRIVER IN SHOOTING

The top unsigned player in the country, American Christian (Pa.) guard Tyreke Evans, was involved in a shooting on Nov. 25 in his hometown of Chester, Pa.

According to the Delaware County Times, Evans was driving a Ford Expedition and his cousin, 16-year-old Jamar Evans shot and killed a 19-year-old Marcus Reason.

Jamar Evans is wanted on first-degree murder charges.

Evans has not been charged. Calls to both Evans and American Christian head coach Tony Bergeron have not been returned.

    ROLLING ALONG

Just a footnote to UCLA's struggles on Saturday at Michigan.

Bruins guard Mike Roll, the team's top perimeter shooter, said his foot - which kept him out for the first seven games of the season - is feeling much better.

However, Roll came down with the flu two days before the game, sat out practice and was vomiting on Friday. Roll's roommate on the road, big man Lorenzo Mata-Real, also caught the flu and played just eight minutes in the win.

"My foot's a lot better," Roll said. "But then this threw me off and had me take a step back. I was kind of out of it today."
