    Ashaolu Takes First Shot

Tuesday, October 24, 2006, 06:43 AM EST [Sam Ashaolu]

A little more than one month after being shot twice in the head, Sam Ashaolu took his first shot.

"I was looking at the picture," Duquesne coach Ron Everhart said. "The doctors took it outside the hospital. I don't know if it went it or not."

    It doesn't really matter.

Ashaolu, one of five Duquesne players shot on campus, suffered the most serious injuries. In fact, doctors were worried that he would pull through.

"It's incredible," Everhart said. "I'm shocked to be honest. Physically, he's really got his bounce back."

The major lingering effects for Ashaolu are with his recall.

Aaron Jackson is back at practice and Kojo Mensah, who has to sit out this year after transferring from Siena, could be back within two weeks. Shawn James, who was shot in the foot, still hasn't had the bullet removed and may need more extensive surgery than first thought to do so.

Stuard Baldonado remains in rehab and is riding a bike, according to Everhart.
