The Citadel, according to sources, is expected to hire Maryland assistant Chuck Driesell.

A news conference is likely for Tuesday afternoon.

Driesell, the son of former Terps coach Lefty Driesell, has spent the past four seasons under Gary Williams at Maryland.

Driesell was also an assistant for a year at Georgetown, spent nine seasons working for his father at James Madison and was also the head coach at Division III Marymount University in Virginia, where he was 88-72.

Driesell was also the coach for three seasons at Navy Prep.

The connection was that Citadel's athletic director, Larry Leckonby, spent six years as the senior associate director at Maryland.

Driesell will replace Ed Conroy, who left to take the head job at Tulane.
