Chicago State coach Benjy Taylor has been fired.
Taylor, who took over at the Division I Independent three years ago and won 19 games in 2008-09, was told of his termination on Thursday – one day after interviewing at Grambling.
"They told me they wanted to go in a different direction," Taylor said.
Taylor, who took the job after two seasons as an assistant at Tulane, was 30-30 entering the season. The Cougars struggled this past season and were 9-23, but Taylor had everyone returning.
"We had two all-conference players back and would have been one of the favorites to win the Great West,” Taylor said.
Taylor refused to comment, but sources close to him said that the support of the program had dwindled of late and he went from having three assistants and a director of basketball operations when he got the job to just two assistants this past season.
The source also said that the team was forced to wear its home jerseys on the road due to the fact that the road uniforms didn't come in until two weeks into the season.

That place is a mess. I saw Chicago State play and those guys did a great job turning the program around. Its a shame but I am sure Coach Taylor and his staff are somewhat relieved. They don't support the program. I hear he had to use his own money for trips at timess. He is on his 3rd President and 2nd AD in as little as 3 years. Good Riddance.
