I'm not exactly surprised that referee John Cahill was at the center of the controversial call at the end of Syracuse's win against UConn on Wednesday night.
Cahill was working for the fifth consecutive night in five different states and was also doing his eighth game in nine nights.
Here's the play in which Cahill gave Syracuse a questionable timeout and possession:

The veteran official has now worked 65 games this season and has only had nine nights off since 2010 began.
Here's his schedule since Jan. 26:
Tues, Jan. 26 - Kentucky at South Carolina
Wed., Jan. 27 - Notre Dame at Villanova
Thurs., Jan. 28 - Duquesne at Xavier
Fri., Jan. 29 - OFF
Sat., Jan. 30 - Syracuse at DePaul
Sun., Jan. 31 - Florida at Tennessee
Mon., Feb. 1 - OFF
Tues., Feb. 2 - Miami at Wake Forest
Wed., Feb. 3 - South Florida at Georgetown
Thurs., Feb. 4- North Carolina at Virginia Tech
Fri., Feb. 5 - OFF
Sat., Feb. 6 - Marquette at Providence
Sun., Feb. 7 - South Florida at Notre Dame
Mon., Feb. 8 - Villanova at West Virginia
Tues., Feb. 9 - Alabama at Kentucky
Wed., Feb. 10 - UConn at Syracuse
The only day that Cahill consistently takes off is Friday - and that's probably because he can't earn a quality paycheck on that night since almost all of the BCS leagues don't play on Fridays.
Something HAS to be done by the NCAA about the amount of games these guys can work. I understand they are independent contractors, but there needs to be a solution because these guys aren't sharp and are impacting the results of key games.
