Three suspensions came down yesterday from the NCAA and the one levied against Kentucky freshman John Wall wasn't nearly as critical as the one that hit a West Virginia freshman.
Wall received two games – one exhibition contest and the regular-season opener against Morehead State on Nov. 13 – and must repay almost $800 of expenses, mostly from travel during unofficial visits.
It's a nothing suspension.
However, the NCAA's 20-game suspension to West Virginia freshman big man Deniz Kilicli was significant to a team capable of going to the Final Four.
Kilicli is a talented and skilled big man from Turkey that could figure prominently into a team that sorely lacked size. Bob Huggins also brought in strong freshman Dan Jennings, but Kilicli was going to play.
Now it'll be difficult to envision Kilicli, who played on a team in Turkey with a professional player in the 2007-08 campaign, getting into the rotation since he won't be eligible until early February.
The third suspension came to Marquette's 7-foot-2 frosh Youssoupha Mbao, who received two games and will have to sit out contests against Centenary and Maryland-Eastern Shore.
