LeFlore High coach Otis Hughley has coached at the Division I level. He's also coached some successful high school teams in the last few years and had some talented players, including Kentucky freshman big man DeMarcus Cousins.

But Hughley isn't completely convinced that Kentucky freshman John Wall – widely regarded as the front-runner for the No. 1 pick in next year's NBA Draft – is even the top point guard on his own team.

"Eric (Bledsoe) may be better," Hughley said. "I've seen them both.”

"Eric can change speeds while John goes one speed," he added. "Both will get better at shooting it. It's not that they can't. It's that they've both been able to go by people easily."

Hughley said that Bledsoe is bigger and stronger than Wall and is nearly as explosive, but the key is that Bledsoe is a terrific passer.

"He's got a gift to pass," Hughley said. "Like John Stockton, Magic (Johnson) and Larry (Bird)."

Wow. I have never seen Bledsoe, but the word out of Lexington is that he has looked terrific thus far in pickup games.

Bledsoe, an Alabama native, single-handedly knocked off LeFlore in the state semifinals.

"He beat us by himself," Hughley said. "John (Wall) couldn't have done what that boy did."

 "He killed us,” Cousins added. "Destroyed us. He was a one-man show."

Trust me, it's not that Hughley isn't a Wall fan. In fact, Hughley feels as though Wall and Bledsoe could quickly become the top backcourt in America.

"That's what they're going to do," Hughley said. "They're going to play together."

RANDOM NOTES: According to a source, FIU's Isiah Thomas picked up another commitment from Seaholm High (Mich.) senior shooting guard Richaud Pack, who played on the same Team Detroit squad that Dominique Ferguson played on this past July. ... Nevada freshmen Devonte Elliott and Jerry Evans didn't qualify and will head elsewhere in the fall. Elliott is a talented 6-foot-9 forward out of Paramount High (Calif.).
