LAS VEGAS – Another day, more AAU coaching antics – the latest courtesy of Reggie Rose.
Yep, Derrick Rose's older brother, the guy who basically controlled Derrick's recruitment from start to finish, pulled his team off the court with a little more than 10 minutes left and his team trailing by 30 or so points.
Here's what happened:
Grassroots Canada's Dwight Powell was at the foul line, apparently shooting two shots. However, one of the referees indicated it was a 1-and-1 and after Powell missed the free throw, the entire Derrick Rose All-Stars team froze as Powell collected the offensive board and followed with an uncontested dunk.
Reggie and his brother, Wayne, both collected technical fouls for arguing with the officials and then Reggie was booted after a profanity-laced tirade.
Reggie then instructed his players to leave the court with 10-plus minutes left and more than 50 college coaches in the crowd.
"He's a clown," said one Division I coach.
"Great lesson to teach kids, that it's OK to quit," added another in the crowd.
When I questioned Reggie about his decision after the game, he was visibly upset.
"$%^&*&*$%,” he said in yet another profanity-laced tirade. "@#$%&!@%."
Shortly thereafter, Reggie had to be escorted out of the gym.
Not exactly the ideal example to set.
But then again, this is AAU basketball.
I believe that your comment "But then again, this is AAU basketball" is incorrect.. This was not an AAU sanctioned evnt, nor has Reggie Rose ever been a member of the AAU within the past 5 years. In fact, anyone coaching in an AAU event must be a member of our organization. I will have you know that if a coach in an AAU event took a team off the court disciplaniry action would have been taken.
BDoddWhile we appreciate the free publicity please correct your information. Call me if you have any questions.
