Air Force – Tom Bellaire replaced Tyron Wright as the military-liason coach. The Falcons will play in the UTEP tournament along with Niagara and Norfolk State. Trevor Noonan transferred to Denver.
BYU – The Cougars will play in the Las Vegas Invitational on Dec. 22-23 and also have non-conference games at Arizona, at Utah State (Dec. 2), at home against Bradley (Nov. 13), against Arizona State (Dec.8) at UTEP and against Fresno State in the Galen Center in Los Angeles.
Colorado State – Assistant Mark Amaral left to become the associate head coach at Cal Poly and was replaced by Craig Smith – who was promoted from director of basketball operations. Randy Baruth was hired as the new DBO. Colorado State will play in the Basketball Travelers Tip-Off from Nov. 13-15 in Oregon along with the host Ducks, UC Davis and Winston Salem State. Non-conference games include at UCLA (Dec. 22), at home against Colorado (Dec. 10) and against Indiana State (Nov. 20). Four players left the program – Dan Vandervieran, Josh Simmons, Ronnie Aguilar and Flynn Clayman (Troy) – while two players transferred in: Wes Eikmeier (Iowa State) and Travis Busch (Minnesota).
New Mexico – Chris Walker left to become an assistant at Villanova and was replaced by Wyking Jones, who was working at Nike. The Lobos will host the World Vision Basketball Classic from Nov. 20-22 along with Louisiana Tech, Miami (Ohio) and Nicholls State. Non-conference home games include Dayton, Texas Tech, Creighton and Cal. Jonathan Wills transferred out to Fresno State.
San Diego State – The Aztecs will play in the West Coast Classic along with Santa Clara, Northern Arizona, Pacific and Fresno State – and also have non-conference games at Arizona State (Dec. 19) and at home against Arizona (Dec. 12). Santa Clara guard James Rahon has transferred into the program.
TCU – Anthony Anderson joined Isiah Thomas’ staff at FIU and was replaced by Eric Haut – who was promoted from director of basketball operations. The Horned Frogs will play in the Arizona State pod of the Preseason NIT and have non-conference games against Houston, Rice, at Nebraska, at Wichita State and against Texas Tech. Cody Hopkins (Indian Hills) took Haut’s place as the DBO. Jim Christian and his staff brought in Virginia Tech transfer Hank Thorns and lost Kavon Rose and Greg Richardson to transfer.
UNLV – The Running Rebels will play in the Diamond Head Classic in Hawaii in December and also have non-conference games against Nevada (Nov. 18), Southern Illinois (Nov. 21) and Louisville (Nov. 28) at home, Arizona (Dec. 2) on the road and against Kansas State on Dec. 12 in the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. DeShawn Mitchell (Rider) transferred out while Quintrell Thomas (Kansas) transferred into the program.
Utah – The Utes will play in the Las Vegas Invitational and will two games at home against Southern and Seattle – and will play Illinois on Nov. 27 and the winner of Bradley/Oklahoma State in Las Vegas on the Nov. 28. Utah will play non-conference games at home against Utah State (Nov. 18), at Weber State (Dec. 2), against Michigan (Dec. 9), against Oklahoma (Dec. 12), against Illinois State (Dec. 19) and at LSU (Jan. 2). Morgan Grim (Utah State) transferred out of the program.
Wyoming – Director of basketball operations Scott Willard left to become the head coach at the Miller School (Va.). The Cowboys are hosting the World Vision Basketball Challenge along with Hampton, Monmouth and Pepperdine from Nov. 27-29. Non-conference games include at Tennessee (Dec. 12), at Northern Iowa (Dec. 23), Boise State (Nov. 21) and Akron (Dec. 30) at home. Two players – Mahoumoud Diakite and Mikhail Linskens – left to play pro ball overseas.
RANDOM NOTES: Scout.com reported that forward DeAndre Daniels, who reclassified into 2011, has committed to Texas. Here are a few more recent commitments: combo guard Jesse Berry to Dayton, big man John McArthur to Santa Clara and guard Ben Brust to Iowa.
… The United States started out 2-0 in the U19 Wold Championships with easy wins against France and Iran. Seth Curry (Duke) had 12 points and Gordon Hayward (Butler) added 11 in the 71-55 victory over France while Tyshawn Taylor (Kansas) led the United States with 13 points in a 106-55 rout against Iran. Curry added 12 points and Terrico White (Ole Miss) finished with 11. Northwestern’s John Shurna had 11 points and 10 boards. … Longwood coach Mike Gillian received a multi-year extension. … Liberty received a commitment from Stephen Baird in the Class of 2010. … No surprise that Michael Gilchrist took the top spot in Scout.com’s 2011 Rankings - scouthoops.scout.com/a.z?s=75&p=9&c=4&cf.... … Siena’s Edwin Ubiles, who played well at the Paul Pierce Camp this past week, received the invite as one of the college campers at next week’s LeBron James Camp.
