Sources still indicate that Kentucky coach Billy Gillispie's
next loss will likely be his last in Lexington - and then athletic director
Mitch Barnhart will target Florida's Billy Donovan.
The question now becomes whether Donovan has interest in leaving Gainesville
two years after he did an about-face after signing with the Orlando Magic.
Don't be shocked if VCU head coach long-time Donovan assistant Anthony Grant,
who is being pursued by Alabama and met with the Crimson Tide this past weekend
in Richmond, holds off in making a decision because it's likely he'd be the
pick to replace Donovan in Gainesville.
BOSTON UNIVERSITY TARGETS BENTLEY COACH
Boston University athletic director Mike Lynch will have to pay former coach
Dennis Wolff more than a million dollars as part of a buyout.
Then he paid Parker Executive Search (the same guys that hired Billy Gillispie
at Kentucky and Kelvin Sampson at Indiana) $75,000 and here's the name sources
say they have contacted:
Bentley coach Jay Lawson.
Are you kidding?
Seriously, this is a complete joke at this level. Do you really think those at
BU are happy that Lynch, whose job responsibilities as the athletic director include
being informed about potential coaching candidates, just paid that type of
money for no reason.
Lawson is a terrific coach, but all he needed to do was ask around and do his
due diligence to get a list of names.
Other names in the mix include Louisville assistant Richard Pitino, BC
assistant Pat Duquette and Georgetown assistant Robert Burke.
Again, this is a list that could and should have been compiled without having
to reach deep into the wallet.
Search firms are hired for one reason: for protection. The guys that BU is
talking to don't need any protection.
