STUD OF NIGHT: I'd say this one is about as much of a no-brainer as there has been on any night this season. Kentucky's Jodie Meeks put on a scintillating display last night, going for a school-record 54 points in a win against Tennessee. The scoring output broke Dan Issel's 53-point performance against Ole Miss in the 1969-70 season. The crazy thing about Meeks is that the knock on him coming out of Norcross High (Ga.) was that he couldn't shoot the ball from the perimeter. Well, he set the school mark with 10 trifectas as well.
DUD OF NIGHT: Tennessee's defense - The Vols haven't been able to stop anyone lately. Some of Meeks' shots were contested, but there's really only two guys on Kentucky's team capable of really hurting you - Meeks and Patrick Patterson - and one of them finished with 60 percent of his team's points.
STAT OF THE NIGHT: Overshadowed by Meeks' performance was the fact that Sacramento State's Loren Leath (cool name) scored 41 points in a 91-73 loss to Northern Colorado. Heath was 12-of-18 from the field, 9-of-11 from beyond the arc and 8-of-11 from the charity stripe.
WHAT YOU MISSED (UNDER-THE-RADAR PERFORMANCE): Florida State knocked off N.C. State for a key road win. The Seminoles are 14-3 and Leonard Hamilton's team has plenty of depth - and plays harder than last year's group.
ON TAP TODAY: There are plenty of interesting matchups today. I'll be at the Wake Forest-BC game, but the Game of the Day may be Syracuse traveling to Georgetown.
