Haskins, a Hall of Famer who coached at Texas Western and UTEP, was best
remembered for the 1966 NCAA championship team in which he started five black
players against Adolph Rupp's all-white Kentucky squad. The team went 28-1 and knocked
off the Wildcats, 72-65.
Haskins, 78, won 719 career games and was enshrined in 1997 in the Hall of Fame.
He had been ill recently and was still living in El Paso.
