CAUTION: Derrick Caracter update.
Honestly, I think Caracter and Herb Pope should start their own team.
Now it appears as though Caracter, the former middle school star and Louisville reserve, is heading to Southern Mississippi.
According to a source, Southern
Mississippi received Caracter's release and transcript on
Thursday morning and it's likely that the he'll enroll in classes sometime next
week.
Caracter refused to comment (well, actually I'm not allowed to print what he wrote) via text message last night on his future destination.
Southern Miss head coach Larry Eustachy has received a second chance, so why
not give Caracter a second, third or however many opportunities he's had thus
far.
For a while, it appeared as though Caracter was going to land at NAIA Oklahoma
City and be able to play immediately. However, Oklahoma City head coach Tommy Wade may leave for an assistant spot
on Travis Ford's staff at Oklahoma State - and that may have played a part in Caracter opting
to go elsewhere.
However, now Caracter will have to sit out the season as a transfer. It's been
difficult enough for him to get his act together even when he's been able to
play, so there's no telling how long he'll last in Eustachy's program.
