    SELF-MADE

    Thursday, August 7, 2008, 08:13 AM [General]

SAN DIEGO - First of all, kudos to my colleague, Jay Glazer, for breaking the news that Brett Favre had been traded to the New York Jets.

Anyway, Sea World was terrific yesterday and we're going to spend the first half of today at the pool before making the drive to Los Angeles.

We'll have something on how quickly things can and do change with coaches in the next few weeks, but just think what might have happened to Kansas coach Bill Self if Davidson's Jason Richards had made the desperation 3-pointer against the Jayhawks in the Elite Eight.

Kansas fans might be chasing Self out of Lawrence right about now. In reality, he'd probably be in Stillwater, coaching his alma mater, Oklahoma State, and Travis Ford would still be telling everyone how much he wants to stay in Amherst, Mass.

Instead, Self just inked a 10-year, $30 million contract that makes him the second-highest paid men's basketball coach in the country - behind the guy who won the previous two national titles - Florida's Billy Donovan.

    HIGH RISER

Scout.com's Dave Telep reports that arguably the guy who raised his stock this summer more than anyone else - Brewster Academy-bound athletic power forward Thomas Robinson - has cut his list to five.

Robinson admits George Washington was about all he had involved going into the summer. Now his list is Memphis, USC, Kansas, Miami and Texas.

    BAYNO CONTINUES TO STOCKPILE TALENT

New Loyola Marymount head coach Bill Bayno added yet another piece this week when Perris High (Calif.) forward Kevin Young enrolled in school.

Young was set to go to prep school, but he is a last-minute qualifier and opted to stay close to home and play for Bayno - where he could be an impact guy immediately.
