I usually hate the Home Run Derby that precedes the All-Star
Game, but watching Josh Hamilton last night absolutely crush 28 balls out of
Yankee Stadium in the first round last night was pretty impressive.
There weren't a whole lot of cheap ones for MLB's
Comeback Story of the Year. Remember, this is a former No. 1 overall pick who
missed three years due to a drug problem.
I didn't wind up going to the Peach Jam this past weekend, but plan to head to
Quinnipiac University this afternoon to catch Adam Finkelstein's Super 16
Showcase - which features guys like Erik Murphy (Florida), Nate Lubick of the
New England Playaz, Brandon Triche of Upstate Basketball, Mike Marra
(Louisville), Kyle Casey and Tucker Halpern of Expressions and also Alex Murphy
of the Playaz 16's.
RANDOM NOTES: Toledo
transfer combo guard Corey Bingham is still looking for a D-1 spot. Bingham is
cousins with Memphis senior guard
Antonio Anderson. ... Jerryd Bayless scored 28 points in his summer-league debut
yesterday in Las Vegas, but was
outdone by another draft day slider in Donte Greene - who scored a
summer-league high of 40 for Houston.
... Kevin Love had 18 points and 13 boards in his debut for Minnesota.
... Memphis' O.J. Mayo is averaging
18.5 points through four games, but is shooting 42.5 percent and is only
averaging two assists per game.
