Here's something to start the week off. It's the
fifth conference offseason rundown - The Big 12:
BIG 12 OFFSEASON RUNDOWN
Baylor - The Bears will play in the Anaheim Classic from Nov. 27-30, which also
includes Arizona State, Wake Forest and Providence. Baylor will also play at Washington State in the Pac-10/Big 12 Challenge on Dec. 6 and will
face Arkansas in Little Rock on Jan. 3. Scott Drew's club also added 6-foot-10
shot-blocker Ekpe Udoh from Michigan.
Colorado - Jeff Bzdelik's team lost sophomore guard Xavier
Silas (Northern Illinois) and freshman big man Caleb Patterson (Missouri State). The Buffs will play in the Rainbow Classic and also
have non-conference games at Stanford (11/29) and against Colorado State (12/10).
Iowa State - Jean Prioleau left for TCU and was replaced by
Daniyal Robinson (Arkansas-Little Rock). The Cyclones lost talented forward
Wesley Johnson, who transferred to Syracuse - and added guard Scott Christopherson (Marquette). Iowa State will host the World Vision Classic from Nov. 14-16,
which also features Cal-Davis, Loyola Marymount and Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Greg
McDermott's team will also play at Northern
Iowa (12/3), at Iowa (12/12) and at home against Oregon State (12/6) and Drake (12/9).
Kansas - The defending national champs will take a Labor Day
trip to Canada and will also be one of four hosts in the CBE
Classic that winds up in Kansas
City on Nov. 24-25. The
other three hosts are Florida, Syracuse and Washington. Non-conference games include home games against Tennessee and Temple and road contests at Arizona (12/23) and Michigan State (1/10). The Jayhawks will also face UMass in Kansas City.
Kansas State - Wildcats forward Andre Gilbert transferred out of
the program, but Frank Martin and his staff added UConn's Curtis Kelly. K-State
will play in a four-team tournament in Las Vegas from Nov. 28-29 in which the Wildcats will play Kentucky and then either West Virginia or Iowa.
Missouri - Mike Anderson and the Tigers will head to Ontario, Canada, for a Labor Day trip and will play in the Puerto
Rico Tip-Off, along with Memphis, Xavier, USC and Virginia Tech, from Nov. 20-23. Missouri also lost guard Keon Lawrence, who transferred to
Seton Hall.
Nebraska - Tony Benford left for a spot on Buzz Williams'
staff at Marquette and was replaced by Walter Roese (San Diego). Nebraska lost two transfers: Shang Ping (Emporia State) and Jay-R Strowbridge, who was looking at Jacksonville State and Middle Tenn. State. The Cornhuskers will play at Arizona State in the Pac-10/Big 12 Challenge and also will face
Creighton at home.
Oklahoma - The Sooners will play in the Preseason NIT and will
also face USC at home on Dec. 4 and play at Arkansas on Dec. 30. Oklahoma guard Tony Neysmith left for Auburn.
Oklahoma State - New Cowboys coach Travis Ford retained Chris
Ferguson, brought Steve Middleton with him from UMass and hired Butch Pierre -
formerly of LSU. Oklahoma State will play in the Old Spiice Classic in Orlando from Nov. 27-30 along with Michigan State, Gonzaga, Tennessee and Georgetown.
Texas - Ken McDonald got the head job at Western Kentucky and Longhorns coach Rick Barnes promoted Chris Ogden
to take his spot. Texas will play in the Maui Invitational and also have
non-conference games against UCLA (12/4), Michigan State (12/20) and at Arkansas (12/7) and at Wisconsin (12/23).
Texas A&M - The Aggies will play in the South Padre
Island Invitational from Nov. 28-29. They will have two home games before going
to South Padre Island, where they open with Tulsa and will then play either Kent State or Illinois. Mark Turgeon's team will play at Alabama, LSU in Houston and at home against Arizona.
Texas Tech - Bubba Jennings was promoted to take the spot
that opened when Bob Knight retired and Pat Knight became the head coach. The
Red Raiders will play in the Legends Classic and also have a non-conference
game at Stanford on Dec. 28. Junior big man Ricardo De Bem left for Oklahoma City.
