For the third consecutive year, Billy Donovan has an opening on his staff.
This time it's assistant Lewis Preston, who has left for a similar position at Penn State after just two seasons in Gainesville.
Preston replaces Hilliary Scott at Penn State, who left to take the head job at Lynchburg College.
WISE BACK TO ARIZONA
I never thought I'd say this, but Nic Wise's return to Tucson is huge for the Arizona Wildcats.
"This is where I
want to be," said Wise, ending speculation about his future. "I trust Coach Olson and he wants me to
be a leader - the captain - next season, and that's what I'm going to
do."
The 5-foot-9 point guard is critical to Lute Olson's program, especially with the fact that incoming freshman floor leader Brandon Jennings has yet to qualify.
Wise was considering transferring to another school, but ultimately decided that remaining at Arizona was the best decision for him. Wise averaged 12.1 points and 5.1 assists in Pac-10 play last year.
If Chase Budinger opts to return to school and Jennings qualifies, Olson could have a chance to get to 800 career victories next season. He's 20 shy.
Think about a starting lineup of Jennings, Wise, Budinger, Jordan Hill and someone such as Jamelle Horne or even talented 7-foot freshman Jeff Withey.
That's certainly good enough talent-wise to compete with anyone in the country. However, we'll see if Budinger decides to return to school.
RANDOM NOTES: Forgot to mention that Rutgers coach Fred Hill received a two-year extension.
