ORLANDO - It was a fairly uneventful night of drills at the Orlando Pre-Draft Camp.

The roster isn't exactly a Who's Who of college basketball stars. In fact, you can make a valid case that there won't be more than a handful of players in attendance that wind up being taken in the first round of the June 26 NBA Draft.

Here are a few impressions:

- Alabama point guard Ron Steele, who sat out the entire season a year ago to recover from multiple knee injuries and surgeries, is still favoring one leg. Steele is a terrific student who shouldn't have put himself in this situation - and will have to return to school next year.

- John Riek, the talented, but oft-injured 7-footer who has been working out at IMG Academy (Fla.), could barely run in the drills and had to sit out the 5-on-5 work. Riek told FOXSports.com that he wants to play Wednesday and Thursday, but his knee has been a constant issue this entire season and he'd be best served sitting out the camp and spending next season somewhere such as South Florida - where he can get game action. ``I want to play," Riek said. "I'm going to see the doctor tomorrow."

- New Mexico's J.R. Giddens was impressive in the 5-on-5 work and also the drills. He's shooting the ball extremely well and is a big-time athlete. Don't be shocked if he plays his way into the end of the first round or early second.

- Mike Taylor, formerly of Iowa State, is the first NBDL player to participate in the camp.

- Tons of NBA guys in attendance, including Milwaukee Bucks assistant and former Indiana head coach Kelvin Sampson, Indiana Pacers general manager Larry Bird and Bobcats president Michael Jordan. Boston Celtics boss Danny Ainge was in the crowd sitting next to his son, Austin, who is expected to join the staff.

- Patrick Ewing was watching his son, Patrick Ewing Jr.

- No one in the gym was happier to be in attendance than Keith Brumbaugh, who has been well-traveled and also knows he has a troubled past to overcome. "It's been a long journey, a really long journey," he said. "It's a good opportunity to play against some of the players I should have been playing against. But it is what it is. I can't live in the past."

RANDOM NOTES: Jeremiah Rivers, the son of Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers, has opted to transfer to Indiana. Rivers is a terrific on-ball defender and the elder Rivers has established a close relationship with Indiana coach Tom Crean, who coached at Rivers' alma mater, Marquette. ... Notre Dame coach Mike Brey has re-hired Anthony Solomon, who was at Dayton last season. ... One-time Arizona signee Emmanuel Negedu has set four visits: Indiana (June 3), Georgia Tech (June 8), Tennessee (June 10) and Memphis (June 12) ... New Marquette coach Buzz Williams got a huge pickup with in-state standout Jeronne Maymon, Scout.com's 59th-ranked player in the Class of 2009.
