Sources told FOXSports.com that UMass met with Memphis assistant Derek Kellogg out in Pittsburgh - the site of a major AAU tournament this weekend.

Fellow UMass alum Tony Barbee, who also coached under John Calipari at Memphis and is now the head coach at UTEP, withdrew from consideration earlier on Friday.

Kellogg, 34, hails from nearby Springfield and played for UMass in the 1990s.

He's done a terrific job in his seven seasons at Memphis helping to turn the Tigers into a national power.

The former Washington State standout led the Titans in scoring last season at 20.2 points per game and made 116 trifectas and shot nearly 90 percent from the free throw line.
