There are two Fox football broadcasters, Terry Bradshaw and Troy
Aikman, who I find to be annoying;
so much so that I often avoid their broadcasts.
My main concern is that they, unlike sports casters that
I call professionals, are unable to hide their prejudices
and favorites. These gentlemen, and I use the term gentleman
loosely in Terry's case, are often critical of certain players
and teams. The best sports casters have the ability to be critical
but do so in diplomatic, positive and encouraging ways.
Terry expresses dislike for Brett Favre is subtle but unmistakable
ways week in a week out.
I think the rest of the Fox panel are professionals but I sense that
they too, like me, are annoyed by Terry the super jock.
Troy's preference for the Cowboys and descent for their opponents,
whoever that might be, is unmistakable week in a week out.
It bothers me that Fox assigns Troy to most Cowboy games;
I like watching Dallas football but Troy's narration diminishes this.
Moreover, Troy's language skills are at best acceptable,
his comments are repetitive, simple-minded verbal replays of the
play we all just saw. I enjoy other broadcasting teams,
in particular the Monday night team,
because they provide often sophisticated, graphical, technical
explanations for why plays go the way they go.
You can try to train them, improve their analytical skills,
train them in diplomacy, to always be encouraging and
never discouraging. I sincerely doubt that either Troy or Terry
are trainable so I suggest you start looking for replacements, PLEASE.
I'm not trying to deny them there freedom of speech but I'm suggesting
that the broadcast booth is not the appropriate place to express biased
views when fans from both sides are in their audience.
