If I remember LSU was the powerhouse of the SEC when they almost got beat by one of the lowest PAC-10 teams of the time, Oregon State. I don't recall for sure but it seems like it took some last minute heroics for the defending? National champs to squeak out a 1 point victory, not something that screams dominance. And neither was the game this year against a hapless Washington team who couldn't manage a single victory last year, shouldn't have been near as close as it was (31-23). As far as games against USC, LSU has not played them in the PC era, and if we're going to start talking history I'll put USC's accomplishments against LSU any time. The only SEC team anywhere in the ballpark historically is Alabama.
As far as the excuses about Arkansas and Auburn, well they were the cream of the SEC round about then, and it wasn't 1 point squeakers, they were both demolished. Anyone that thinks Daren Mcfadden would have made any dif at all didn't watch the game. The line of scrimmage was dominated by USC and that was the end of the story. Besides, didn't they have a fellow name of Felix Jones at RB as well? Didn't he gain over 1,000 yards that year as a backup against the vaunted SEC defenses? Oh, BTW, Jones wasn't the only RB Arkansas had in that game. Yeah, that's right, Contrary to your popularly held urban legend, Mr. Mcfadden did play in that game, he had 42 yards on 9 carries. Jones had 48 yards on 7 carries, not near as well as they did against SEC teams. But don't let something like facts get in your way.

nobody does it like the SEC Most talent in coaching anywhere, Better fan base, Better overall teams. USC can not touch Tennessee's 102,000 plus stadium, largest in the nation, with Michigan a close 2nd.

Oh BTW, did I read it right? Not the best? They beat Auburn in 2003 23-0, I repeat, basically the same Auburn team that went undefeated in 2004 and won the SEC. When they played Auburn was ranked 6 and USC 8. In 2006 Arkansas was the SEC west champ, USC BEAT THEM 50-14! IN THE SEC TITLE GAME FLORIDA ONLY BEAT THEM 38-28! All year long no one in the SEC scored as many points on them, and no one in the SEC kept them to 14 points (7 of which were scored in garbage time against third string defense). So keep it up, you're reinforcing the know-it-all listen-to-no-logic that is the SEC image. Don't let something as silly as facts or stats get in your way.

And why is it they need a conference championship game? FYI, USC actually plays everyone in conference so they don't need a conference champ game, which by the way is an advantage to a team wanting to get to the BCS NC game. For instance, in 2003 it's what boosted LSU's strength of schedule and vaulted them over USC. In the same year OU was DESTROYED in the Big-12 conference champ game and still went instead of USC anyway, who lost one game in triple OT.
Anyway, what's your point abot the conference champ game? Most people that follow college football know that it is actually about the money, not having a legit champ. But go on, pound the SEC chest, everyone knows you can do no wrong. That is, except for when you play USC.

They don't even have a championship conference playoff. How can you say that they deserve to go the the Rose Bowl? At least in the SEC you get the best of the best in the National Championship game, not whoever has the most wins. They may have beaten the SEC 4 times but not the SEC's best. The SEC is the hardest conference to play in. On any given day you may think you know who will win but, you really don't know. It takes an SEC team to beat an SEC team. The only team to beat to the National Champions from the SEC The Flordia Gators, was Ole Miss, another SEC team. The Rose Bowl is not even open to the Teams from the SEC.

For those SEC fans who say USC never plays anybody, I would agree. They played Arkansas in a year that Arkansas woin the SEC and beat them 70-0 or something like it. They played an Auburn team that had basically the same players they would have the next year and go undefeated, and beat them 23-0. In the Pete Carroll era they are 4-0 against the SEC, all pretty much landslides against the cream of the SEC crop. No wonder the SEC won't schedule home and home against other real teams, it makes them look bad.
As far as USC "Hiding" in the Rose bowl, how stupid can you get? They go to the Rose because they win conference EVERY YEAR! Thats where the winner of the PAC-10 goes (until the BCS idiots finally get a clue and realize that a 1 loss USC team rolls over any Big-11 or Big-12 team they play, with the one exception of Texas in a very close game). They don't "choose" where they go, they win their conference year after year and get the bowl bid everyone not in the BCS NC wants; the grand-daddy of bowls and still the highest paying: THE Rose Bowl!
