I think your memory is fooling you a bit.
Newhouse, though he was good, he wasn't great same for Preston Pearson.
But everyone knew that Dorsett was going to be special.

Having multiple "great" backs is not always good and seldom is. Walker and Dorsett is the better comparison to the Cowboys RB situation. Rmeber all the fuss of who should start? In the end the Cowboys shipped Dorsett to denver to kill the controversy. Too bad I would loved to have Dorsett finish as a Cowboy.

The Cowboys, and the gi'aints for that matter - and few others, will have a tough decision to make soon regarding their RB position. I don't think they can keep all their key runners on their respective rosters... mainly because of $$$$$$$$. But I think, if your were the GM on these two teams, you know which one you would keep if you had to choose.

My prediction is that for the Cowboys MBIII is the odd man out. They will not resign him once his contract expires. If felix can stay healthy he is the man... I know... big IF. They'll try to resign Tashard if the price is right. If not, they'll draft someone like him, or better, and have Felix and the new guy as their new 1-2 punch. For the gi'aints, jacob is the odd man out. It will be Bradshaw, if can stay out of jail, and a rookie.

Of course, I could be total off wrong.

Anyway, none of current RB tandem is like Dorsett/Walker situation... they both won a Heisman and for much of their career lived up to it.

I think that Jason is the wrong O coach for our club. We do not have the players for what he wants to do. Jason is a pass happy guy. And hell our WRs are not for that type of O calling. There is not one guy that is a 30yd deep ball threat. Do not tell me that our guys need to develop into that. Crayton, Hurd and Austin for the most part have had three years to show what they got. They have shown us that they are not even solid #2 WRs. We need a O coach that loves to run. Say what you will that Jason is young. Bottom line Jason is a pass first guy. Coach all have what they like to do.

Just look closely...Barber will bang heads with anyone just like ol Bobby Newhouse. Jones cab get to open space and then break away just like ol Toouchdown Tony D. As far as al purpose, 3rd down, pass catching ability, T Choice sure does remind me of a younf Preston Pearson....I could be wrong but look at the tings that werew done with those guys on the team .....scary what could be if Mr. Garrett would take a minute to look at it in this light.....take a cue from the history man!

I have to agree with fuji on this one. Jones has the potential to break one at any given moment but the injuries are there and they will keep coming for him. I wouldn't trade him though because they have the other great backs. Run him into the ground, he's gonna make plays.

Isn't that always the case for those speedy backs. They are small and fragile but man give them space and they are gone. Felix looks like he will go the way of the Eagles back. Never finish a season without and injury. My view is trade him. With Barber and Choice doing well we could stand to offer Felix. Better for him to be on IR somewhere else. Maybe we could get a WR that would keep D's worried.

Felix Jones is the leading rusher on the team averaging over 10 yards a carry. He's a little guy and will get hurt easy. If he looks slow sometime, it's proabably a leg injury. I think we need to limit his carries. Having a guy that, that can bust loose for a touchdown on a sweep or any carry outside of the line, spreads the defense and weakens the middle for Barber and Choice. I wouldn't use him for kick returns. Just a couple of runs in the first quarter to show the defense they need to worry about him. Tony Dorsett was a pro at avoiding a hard hit. Felix should take a lesson from him.

I still say Felix can be an every down back. I think he'll learn how to take hits and brace himself for hits in the NFL. Once he learns, he'll become more durable. But he's ripped off few sizable runs already this season. I expect to see more of them and even longer runs.

Tony D's 99 yard run will never be broken, but a healthy Felix can tie it. Having said all that it is a good idea to rotate the three. Makes it more interesting for sure.

Yeah, it would be interesting to see McFadden on a better team. As long as JaMarcus Russell is his QB, McFadden will always see eight man front geared to stop him. Put him on a team like the gi'aints... that would be scary

If al davis offered McFadden for Felix, straight up, would you do it if  you're Jerry Jones?

Hey Ghingo - I guess I  misinterpreted your thread starting post. My bad. It kinda came across as criticism more than an observation. MB3 and Felix both had the same question mark coming into their drafts. They were contributing members of 2 back systems. Both were solid running backs, many even predicted Felix would be the more explosive NFL back than his counterpart, Darren McFadden.

The question mark was durability. It was simply the element of the unknown, if either could withstand the rigors and challenges of being an every down back. MB3 was great as a relief back and 4th quarter game finisher in college behind Laurence Maroney and behind Julius Jones with the Cowboys. He's had issues staying healthy as a starter. Now enter Felix Jones as a starter, and he's having the same issues. Damn good thing Dallas has Choice.

Maybe the ideal plan is Jones & Choice split the starting load and use Barber as a red zone and 4th quarter finisher, where he made a name for himself?

I wandered a bit from the original direction, but Jones seemed to be doing great, till MB3 went down and Felix was asked to be the feature back.

Felix is "poor mans Chris Johnson"????

no, you got that backwards.

Before the draft I had high regards for Chris Johnson, as I stated on the forum. And he is everything I thought he would be. But, Felix, when healthy, will be more consistant than CJ. I think Felix is a stronger runner too.
