My name is Rusty and I’m an over-aged college student currently and a huge sports fan, currently enrolled in a class called The History Of U.S. Journalism. I go to the University Of Tennessee At Chattanooga (The school Jimmy Fallon was making good hearted fun of last year during March madness when we played Connecticut) and am working on a semester long project and presentation. Our teacher, Dr. Rushing gave as list of topics, hoping we could get ideas from them and whenever I saw one on female newscasters, I knew what I wanted to do.
After the Erin Andrews incident, I thought I’d put together something about Female sportscasters and sportswriters. Are they more accepted now than they were thirty years ago? Do you still prefer Chris Berman over Hannah Storm? Is Erin Andrews nothing more than sideline eye candy or do you consider her a true sports journalist? It’s things like this that I’m attempting to find out and if you’d be willing to answer the following questions I’d really appreciate it.
1. First Name (I’d like to be able to quote you and using your internet handle would make it look like I was
making things up)
2. Age (I think the age demographic will be very important on this project)
3. Name your Top 10 female sportscasters/sportswriters.
4. Why do you like these ladies?
5. What do you think the pros and cons of female sportscasters and sportswriters are?
6. Do you still enjoy men doing both play by play and color commentary on games or would you like hearing a
woman do play by play and analysis?
7. Name the Top 10 Female sportscasters/sportswriters that you dislike.
8. Why don’t you like these women?
9. Do you think there’s a place in sports casting and sports writing for women? Or do you believe that the
press boxes and broadcast booths are still strictly for men? Explain.
Once I get enough responses, I should be able to put together a pretty good paper and presentation. But without your help, I won’t be able to do any thing.
