I know that as a Chiefs fan it is a violation of Cardinal Rule Number 1 to talk bad about your team but it has to be noted that the Head Shed is really screwing up.
1. We have 4 Quarterbacks...Cassel, Croyle, Thigpen, and Gutierrez. Once Cassel, who is too expensive for the Chiefs and has not performed to any great level to justify his income, has recovered we will be require to drop a QB at some point along that road. Who would it be? From the way they have treated him so far I would suspect that it will be Thigpen. No Offense, but they have disrespected him greatly and he got us to the playoffs last year, by the skin of his teeth, but we were there none the less. I would build the team around Thigpen, give him a line that he has time behind. Our line has done better each game, but still a few simple errors. So we will go with Cassel, Gutirrez, and Croyle (who has had 2 years to justify keeping him and he hasn’t done it yet).
2. We release Ashley Lelie, who not only draws double team coverage, but still makes it difficult to shut down. The more targets we have for the QB, the better. Obviously, Bowe didn't do the job, because he is listed as back-up rather than as the first String receiver.
The Chiefs are constantly investing in the future. Future games, a future season, future play-offs, but just like the economy-bad investment advice. However, when they get a skilled player, they trade him or set him back, and place their hopes on another player who has yet to prove themselves, as was done with Jared Allen and Dante Hall, just to name a few.
The defense is weak in the secondary, yet they will constantly jack with the line and the line backers, rather than get skilled corners and skilled safeties.
The Special Teams have lost the ability to be a scoring threat on kick-off and punt returns. When you think of it is simplest terms: The Offense scores, the Defense can score, and Special Teams can score. So if each aspect is a dimension of the game, KC has lost 1 dimension in that Special Teams has a hard enough time fielding a fair catch let alone returning it for a touchdown. Secondly, the Defense is not a serious shut down, can score on you defense, like it was in 95, 96, and 97. The Offense, struggles with passing and running the ball steadily. However, Thigpen has posted the bulk of the points earned in the Preseason. The defense did score with an interception by Flowers, but is that going to be something to rely on or expect? I doubt it. Our Offense is struggling to score, the passing rhythm is down, and the running lanes are not dominate, due to the Offensive line not maintaining control of the line. Really, we are not a scoring threat at any aspect of the game...Offense, Defense, or Special Teams. So rather than being a triple threat team, we are a “Hey guys, where here, but hang tight, someone is fixing to score” team. I want my Chiefs back…Please
Fire the coaching staff, hire a tried and true Coach…Number 1 candidate would be Bill Cowher, if he would come out of retirement.
We need alot of help...head Coach needs to focus on Coaching and not try to also be the Offensive Coordinator. That was a bad mistake, but last year The OC made several bad calls that killed us.
