Jack Tatum, not as "dirty" as people think. Rules were alot different back then

Taylor and Roy Williams are great at jacking up punters, off balance running backs

I don't know how I missed this thread.

Atwater was the hardest hitter ever.... the best example being that hit on Okoye. That had to have been one of the hardest MAN on MAN hits the NFL has ever seen. Watch it here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=yScioc_dmXg&feat...

Tatum was just freakin dirty. It wasn't how hard he hit... it was how he hit, like with the forarm to the back of the head. He is one of the many reasons that I hate the Raiders to this day.

As far as all-around quality, I'm with the R. Lott group. To me, it's not even a contest. He was the epitome of what a Safety should be.

Polamalu is currently the best safety playing, whether or not he is the hardest hitter. It's hard to call him a safety, though, he's just a total defensive player. He lines up at every position except tackle and you never know where's he's coming from. One play he's breaking a pass up deep downfield, next play he catches a running back from behind in the backfield. He may be the best defensive player in football right now.

Yeah but he doesnt deserve to be put into the Atwater and Tatum molds. I stand by the Tatum vote.
