Larry,

i think you made alot of strong valid points. the only thing i need to disagree with is tring Ryan at HC. Kiffin will be gone (after his contract is up), but Ryan can't even call a blitz. If Ryan is gonna be HC he needs to prove he can truely run the D before he's considered for HC.

just my 2 cents

peace

I UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE SAYING MAN. I WISH THIS TEAM WITH LANE KIFFIN CAN OVERCOME THIS MADNESS AND BECOME A GREAT TEAM. THE RAIDERS HAVE GREAT TALENTED PLAYERS BUT I STILL DO NOT KNOW WHAT HAPPENED. I AM JUST HOPING FOR THE BEST AND HOPING THAT THE GAME LAST WEEK WAS A PRANK.....TO MAKE EVERYONE THINK THE RAIDERS ARE HORRIBLE.(I KNOW I AM JUST DREAMING). MAN.....I JUST WISH THE RAIDERS WOULD COME TOGETHER AND WIN.(AND SHUT UP ALL RAIDER HATERS) MINK7

I'm not going to give up on Huff yet, but so far, he hasn't really been an impact player. I don't think you take a safety with the 7th pick in the draft. We could have drafted Leinhart (I still think he'll be good) or Cutler with that pick, then the following year, if we still had #1 could have drafted Calvin Johnson and grabbed DMac this year (assuming we still had that same pick). That would give us a good foundation in the skill positions to build around.

As far as Fabian Washington is concerned, maybe he'll pan out but it won't be for Oakland. I think we traded him for a 4th or 5th round draft pick in April. Al has a funny way of doing that. Sort of like trading a former 1st rounder (Napolean Harris, and 1st round pick (8th or 9th that ended up being Troy Williamson) for Randy Moss, only to trade Moss 2 years later for a 4th round pick. The list goes on. Drafting Robert Gallery and giving him Left Tackle money at #2 and he ends up getting moved to Guard because he can't play LT. Sure other teams have draft busts too, but it seems like Oakland makes mistakes more than others do.

Future doesn't look very bright either. We are going to be in terrible shape cap wise. Al went bananas in free agency this season and shelled out a lot of guaranteed cash to subpar players. Not to mention all of the cap space tied up giving bonuses to our high 1st round draft picks these past 4 years. You can't waste money like that with the salary cap.

I think Cowher is a great coach, but he'll never come to Oakland. Why would he want to deal with an overbearing owner like that when he can probably get major control with just about any franchise he wanted, excluding Dallas? Al has alway undermined his coaches. He did it with Bugel, Mike White, Art Shell, Callahan, Norv Turner, and now Kiffin. That's why players are always getting suspended and disrespecting the coaching staff. Moss did it, Porter did it, the list goes on. Al won't listen to anyone. I read in someone's book, maybe Madden's or another ex-Raider player that Al's wife used to have his ear. Maybe that is the problem. He doesn't have anyone around that can influence him. Its too bad, because the guy obviously cares and wants to win. I think the best thing for Oakland this year is to let Kiffin go and bump Ryan to head coach and see what he can do. It won't be much longer before the players quit Kiffin. They know Davis asked him to resign, and wouldn't pay him off.

ThePackisBack45]mink i don't think you know who al really is.... he did shanahan dirty he fired him for no reason and then tried to get out of paying his salary......davis being jewish has nothing to do with anything footballl realted....its his way or the highway...check out this article from last year in the sf chronicle www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/...
it gives u a glimpse of the kind of leader davis is...he's over the hill mink we all know that ....he's damn near 80 years old name one person that age trying to run a organization....i'm not saying he has to go away totally but he needs a younger fresher mind to help him nowadays its the game has changed way too much to still be trying to run ur team like u did in the 70's and 80's........it won't get right instantly but if davis continues to make all the decisions its just gonna take longer
for the next man to get it right

HEY MAN.....I NEVER SAID THAT AL WAS EASY TO DEAL WITH. BUT HE IS A FAIR MAN. HE BELIEVES IN GIVING PEOPLE FAIR CHANCES. REMEMBER.....THERE ARE TWO SIDES TO EVERY STORY. SHANAHAN IS ONLY TELLING HIS SIDE OF THE STORY. WHY IS SHANAHAN HOLDING OLD GRUGES AGAINST AL DAVIS? AL FIRING SHANAHAN HAS WORKED OUT REALLY WELL. MIKE HAS HAD THE SAME COACHING JOB OVER 10 YEARS AND HIS BRONCOS TEAM HAVE DOMINATED THE RAIDERS FOR SO MANY YEARS. MIKE SHANAHAN NEEDS TO LET THE OLD GRUDGES GO.....MAN. OLD GRUGES CAN MAKE YOU ILL. PACK, THE RAIDERS HAVE TALENTED PLAYERS ON THE TEAM.....I AM JUST HOPING LANE KIFFIN HAS A GOOD GAME PLAN THIS WEEK. OH YEA, DAVIS BEING JEWISH HAS A LOT TO DO WITH GIVING POWER TO HIS COACHES. THE JEWISH PEOPLE ARE SPECIAL CHOSEN PEOPLE THAT WILL NOT MAKE HASTY DECISIONS. AL DAVIS WILL NOT GIVE POWER TO A COACH THAT IS NOT PROVEN YET. I BELIEVE DAVIS WOULD GIVE COWHER.....POWER TO PICK PLAYERS DURING THE DRAFT.(COWHER CAN BE TRUSTED TO PICK GOOD PLAYERS) DAVIS GAVE KIFFIN POWER.....WHETHER TO KEEP MOSS OR TO LET HIM GO. I THINK KIFFIN FAILED ON THAT DECISION. MINK7[ wrote:

LarryLegend2000]Al Davis is the problem. I repeat... AL DAVIS IS THE PROBLEM!!! We have been worthless ever since Gruden left. None of the coaches have been even remotely successful. Al Davis calls all the shots, assistant coaches, free agents, and draft picks. He does it all and has nobody to blame for this mess but himself. How is it that Norv Turner sucked for Oakland but then takes San Diego to the AFC Championship? Look at how well Gruden has done in Tampa compared to Oakland since the Super Bowl. Don't forget that we got two of their 1st and 2nd round picks too. Oakland will never get a good quality coach because the good coaches don't need to put up with Al's shet. Instead he'll get some bright up and coming coordinator and handcuff them. I think the only way Gruden was successful is because he was able manage an overbearing owner like Davis. If Davis didn't try to lowball him and not give him a contract extension he'd probably still be in Oakland with 2 Super Bowl rings. I'm sure Kiffen will leave and end up being a pretty good coach too, but it won't be in Oakland

It makes me sick to look at all of the $$$ that we've squandered on free agency and the draft these last 5-6 years. Look at the DYNASTY that Jerry Jones and Jimmy Johnson built when they loaded up on draft picks from Minnesota after the Herschel Walker trade. Why couldn't we have done the same with what we received from Tampa for the Gruden trade? Instead we get 19 total wins over the next 5 seasons.

Look at our 1st round picks for the past 8 years.... Try not to laugh.

1999 -18 - Stinchcomb (BUST)
2000- 17 - Janikowski (BUST)
2001- 28 - Gibson (BUST)
2002- 17 - Buchanon (BUST)
2002- 23 - Harris (BUST)
2003- 31 - Asomugha (Superstar)
2003- 32 - Brayton (BUST 6 sacks in 5 seasons)
2004- 2 - Gallery (BIG BUST)
2005- 23 - Fabian Washington (BUST)
2006- 7 - Huff (BUST)
2007- 1 - Russelll (TBD)
2008- 4 - McFadden (TBD)

So Al is basically batting a whopping .100 in the first round of the draft. I seriously doubt Russell will be successful when can't develop because Al continues with the coaching carousel and keeps changing the offensive system every year. How can this guy look himself in the mirror in the morning when he sees what a total DISGRACE this once great franchise has become. Our only hope as Raiders fans is that Al sells a controlling interest in the team and takes a backseat and let someone who knows something about football take the reins. I'm sure Al's way worked fine before free agency and the salary cap came into play but the NFL is too competitive now to fk up the draft like he does every year. Not to mention all the $$$ that he has pissed away signing worthless free agents like Javon Walker, DeAngelo Hall, Desmond Howard, Larry Brown, etc, etc.

It's no surprise that Oakland ranked 28th in the NFL in franchise value. Good thing Al doesn't have any partners to sue him for pissing away all this money and destroying the value of the franchise. How do fans in Oakland spend good money for tickets and Raiders gear knowing that Al is just flushing it down the toilet?

[color=red]LARRY, HEY MAN......I KNOW THAT YOU ARE ANGRY.....HOW THE RAIDERS HAVE BEEN PLAYING FOR THE PAST FIVE YEARS. IF AL DAVIS WAS TO TURN THE FRANCHISE.....TO A NEW OWNER..... THAT IS NOT A GUARANTEE TO INSTANT SUCCESS. THE RAIDERS ARE NOT THE ONLY NFL TEAM THAT HAVE GOTTEN PLAYERS THAT WERE A BUST. ON SOME NFL TEAMS PLAYERS THAT NO ONE THOUGHT WOULD CONTRIBUTE MUCH.....BECAME REALLY GOOD PLAYERS. I UNDERSTAND ALL OF YOUR FRUSTRATIONS ABOUT THE RAIDERS. YEA.....AL DAVIS HAS PUT A LOT OF MONEY OUT THERE. WHY DID AL PUT SO MUCH MONEY OUT THERE? BECAUSE HE BELIEVES IN HIS PLAYERS AND GIVIES THEM A SECOND CHANCE TO BE GREAT AGAIN. AL DAVIS DID IT WITH JIM PLUNKETT, LYLE ALZADO, RICH GANNON AND A LOT OF OTHER PLAYERS. IF PLAYERS DON'T BELIEVE IN THEMSELVES AND BETRAY HIS TRUST IN THEM.....THAT IS NOT AL'S FAULT. AL DAVIS IS A VERY FAIR MAN. WE AS wrote:
