unc tarheels, you started this topic AND suggested we leave Brady out so I'm not considering him on my list. (Re Brady, it's been suggested he's a mediocre pocket passer in a good system - Cassel sure did fill in well last season seems to lend that some credibility - time will tell.) So IMO, the top 5 QB I've seen (not considering Brady) are:
1. Montana - best game manager - 2 minute drill. Ask the Bengal fans... Could read a D the best I've seen. 2. Peyton - did not have the luxury of 'studying' for a year on the bench - 1st yr starter - incredible student of the game. Last season coming back from surgery and taking the Colts on his back without a running game to a playoff spot earned him MVP. And has rarely had the D to keep him on the field. His career isn't over so he could move ahead of Montana.... 3. Marino - incredible quick release and accuracy - just never had the talent on hiis teams to match his own. Really is a travesty he never got a ring.... 4. Elway - just a great QB talent - 4th Q comebacks were amazing. 5. Young -imagine if he had started before reaching 31. Loved his scrambling and running. Hated to see his career be so brief - still a great talent and in the top 5 for the time he played.
Just can't put Favre on the list w/ his INT record.
And for anyone who wants to diminish Peyton's abilities cause he's played in a dome, both teams play in the same stadium conditions for any given game. And every team in the AFC South has open / out door stadiums except the Colts till now where we now have both open and closed roof games. And, seems to me everyone gave the edge to the Bears when monsoon rains were expected in SB XLI - we all know how that turned out....
All IMO - we all have one....
tenn, I hear you.... agreed

The reason I don't "retort" to them is because I like Brady as a QB. I don't think he is as good as Manning, but I still respect what he has done. I think its a good rivalary between the Colts and Pats. Every year the regular season game seems to already have playoff implications. Heck I even like Bellichick, don't care much for his demeanor, but he is still a good football coach and evaluator of talent. See Hella I'm not blinded by how good Peyton is the way you are about Brady. I know that Brady is good just like I know that Manning is good. I certainly don't need to come into a blog like this to defend his stats or reputation the way you do Brady's. I come here to have a conversation about football when I'm bored at work. After reading all your posts about Brady and how great he is and how much better he is than Peyton it even bores me more, because its the same ole crap from you. Yeah Brady had a great year in 07 with 50 TDs. Did you know that Peyton only played in the first quarter of the last game against the Seahawks in 04 after he threw for 49 TDs in game 15? What if he came out in that game and really tried with his first stringers still in there? Brady would have been looking to throw for 52 or better just to catch him. I could go on and on with that stuff just like you do. I'm done with this blog.....later.

No, my opinion is Brady is better because what he has done.
Only QB to win his first year.
He turned a 1 - 4 team in the cellar into a Super Bowl winner.
He did this with only having a great running game in one of the Super Bowl runs.
He constantly beat Manning with inferior weapons, and almost beat him in 07 when his best receiver was who? Caldwell? lol
And when Brady finally got some talent on offense he showed that he could put up the numbers that Manning has, even surpass them. Doing this without the benefit of playing in a dome with controlled environments.
So tell me where I am false in any of these statements and please explain how Mannings surpasses Brady.
I don't recall the colts passing deep routes when they were up by 20 some points in the 2nd half of games like the patriots did. Tom Brady tried for that record, Manning was just helping his team, he couldn't have cared less about it during games
Yeah, because you have Oreo's with Manning on the weekend and he told you. Like you know. Besides, most of Brady's TD's came in the first half, and he did it with playing only 1 game in a dome (The Colts) while Manning got 49 with more interceptions while playing over half his games in a controlled environment. Are you going to tell me that Foxboro and the Meadowlands is good weather conditions?
Get over it, the record is his. Move on.
