It dont matter by the owner... If the players can generate some heart on the team it can go far alone... There is a cycle this teams needs to break... they get so far behind from salary cap on players they take and still pay on... ford was a idiot to take millen in the first place. he needed experiece to handle the team when it got here from pontiac.. Millen planted weeds here and now its hard to clean it up the dang team is like them dandelions, find one the whole dam lawn is screwed

dusty1491,

I entirely disagree. The best overall defensive player is Aaron Curry.

To be a consistent winner you need capable players across your roster. It is the no-name guys that quietly do their job and don't get much of the spotlight that make a team consistently win. That all starts in the trenches on both offense and defense.

The big-name. flashy players are what put you over the top to win a championship. They are what turns a team that can win consistently into a Super Bowl contender.

The Lions need to walk before they run. They need to make safe picks in the draft and take the first step toward a solid overall roster. They need to build in the trenches and fill the holes they have. Once they have a good consistent roster they can look at adding the stars they need to become a championship team.

An additional advantage to this approach is that the Lions will keep their cap numbers down and possibly find a couple of unexpected stars. How much confidence do you think that New England had that Tom Brady would become the best QB in the league from a seventh round pick? But it happens. About half of the starting QBs in the league were not drafted in the first round, including many of the better QBs. Several were not drafted at all and signed as free-agents.

The Lions would be wasting a great pick if they took Over rated Sanchez or Stafford. They Definitely need defense and the best all around player is Brian Orakpo. He is a Beast. He will be great from either the DE position or the LB spot. There will be a lot of other linemen available later in the draft that will help the lions out. The Lions should draft with the first second round pick is Josh Freemen, he showed off his skills at the combine and has the best mobility out of the top 3 qbs. He would be able to avoid the pass rush that the lions cannot stop from coming at him. Its time to change things in Detroit and if that means getting a scrambling qb, then its time to do that.

I personally think we should go defense with the first 3 picks remember how bad the Lions were torched through the air all season. Every quarterback that played against them had their best qb rating of the season when playing the Lions. On several occasions Detriot could not stop the run either. If i were the Lions I would draft BJ Raji #1 he is an extreamely dominant DT that will help the D immensely

I obviously am not a Lions fan but I do feel sorry for you fans. I aree with alot of you guys, with the #1 pick in the draft you need to pick a new owner. You see I know, we're stuck with Dan Snyder.

they can pick up a qb in free agency if they really want to. OLineman like Oher and Smith are hard to come by

I agree one million% Howie. Games and championships are won with competent front office people, which I have seen that a lot of writers around the country really are high on Martin Mayhew and most seem to like the selection of Schwartz. They are also won with dominating Offensive and defensive lines. You build a winner from the inside out on both sides of the ball. I hope Detroit selects Michael Oher # 1 and then gets a bigtime linebacker like Lauranaits from Ohio State or Ray maualuga from USC./bigtime Dlineman Then get a good CB or Guard. Signing Peppers would be a good move for sure as well to have a top tier pass rusher with good years left in the tank still.
