Why Roy Williams is contemplating not talking to the media is important

I hope the pressure isn't getting to Roy Williams, but when he declares he might not talk to the media this season it makes you wonder.

Now, if he doesn't want to talk to the media because he doesn't want to be bothered answering questions, then he's really no different than Rocket Ismail, Charles Haley or Leon Lett.

Haley talked on game day; the others didn't talk at all.

Frankly, it was no big deal because all you want as a journalist is consistency. There's no law that says a guy has to talk if he doesn't want to, but it also means he has no right to question what you write since he doesn't want to answer your questions.

But if Williams doesn't want to talk because he doesn't like what he's reading. Or he thinks he's being criticized too harshly, then that's a warning sign that shouldn't be ignored.

Everybody can't play in Dallas for the Cowboys just like everybody can't play in New York for the Yankees.

A certain level of scrutiny accompanies every player who dons a Cowboys' uniform. Those who can't handle it have no chance to thrive. They'll drown in a sea of newspaper clippings and sports talk radio commentaries.

I have no idea if Williams falls into that category, but we're about to find out.

There's no doubt Williams is under tremendous pressure to perform after the Cowboys signed him to a five-year, $45 million deal, traded first-round, third-round and sixth-round picks for him and released T.O. to ensure he thrives.

He's coming off an awful season and there's no tangible statistical evidence to suggest he can produce the eye-pooping numbers T.O. did. That doesn't mean he can't, it means he hasn't done it before.

He has to prove it before he gets the benefit of the doubt. If that bothers him, too bad.

I'm curious how this turns out.
Enjoy what was, deal with what is, don't ask what if and look forward to what will be ...

i agree that jerry is the problem, jerry only know about moneyand the record proves it,wade is a good coach, however when players undermine him its sad.the cowboy have had a great tradition of quarterbacks, the cards game when kicking field goal to get to overtime ,camera showed a shot of romo sitting on the bench like always showing no cheer,is he not in the long line of great QB,maybe not,he gets one more year and if not, time to go.this team is torn up in the locker room on the blame game,i dont think these player when they look back on the time in dallas will have done everything that they could to up hold the long traidition of the cowboy, including jerry if he doesnt get out the way and find a G.M. like bill or jimmy and stick with them, guys like that dont fall off trees,i would hate to think that jerry really is the new al davis excert his motto is just underchive BABY.

Linkster]Jerry..you have tried your best...unfortunately your best isn't good enough..YOUR NOT A FOOTBALL MAN..AND NEITHER IS YOUR SON and you never will be.

Swallow your pride and EGO..and bring Jimmy back to run this team for you...and then act like the best owner the Cowboys ever had (Clint Murchison) shut up..stay in your owners suite..and stay out of the way. [hl=teal]Ego's have wrecked countries, corporations, and now our team.[/hl]
You over pay players that have great physical ability, but unfortunately have nothing between their ears. No discipline, continued mental mistakes (14 games in the season), one of the most penalized teams in the NFL for the last several years. You bring in troubled "star" players with again..great physical ability..but just aren't very intelligent and responsible (players who always blame someone else for their mistakes)

NFL football is game of the physical, talented, and the INTELLIGENT players and you don't know enough to be a GM....and never will.

Again, Dallas fans beg you to give it up and bring Jimmy Johnson back. and pay him what ever he wants..you'll save $$ in the long run, and return some of the glory back to Dallas fans.

Your next move as President and GM...FIRE YOURSELF

so what in hell does the cowboys collapsing have to do with a country coll wrote:

Can't blame J.J.'s for this...He gave you the best team on paper money can buy. It's the coaches and players fault for this collapse. Jason Garrett is a bust as offensive coordinator. I heard Ray Lewis say last week that Dallas' offense is the easiest in the league to defend and after 16-games everyone knows it. Lots of changes neede to keep from going 8-8 or worse next year IMHO

It's time for Jerry to start letting football people run the Cowboys which means he's got plant his rear end in his luxury box and keep it there. That means at all times when it comes to business with the Cowboys. Sign the checks and leave the football decisions to people who know what the heck they're doing.
