Prior to McGwire being traded to the Cardinals he was starting to look more like Dave Kingman. Couldn't hit for average or play defense but could hit breath taking home runs and had a surly attitude.
Well said. He should get in but like it has been said, he was one-dimensional. Still, he had a helluva career. I couldn't care less about the steriods issue. The writers are just looking for something to babble about.
McGuire doesn't deserve to get into the HOF on the first ballot -- not because he was on steroids but because he was one-dimensional. He couldn't field, hit for average or be a leader. He should get into the HOF but he should wait 6-7 years.
Compare his career to Harmon Killebrew who had to wait almost a decade.
