on screen pitch count stats always show it as the sum of balls and strikes.
why doesn't the "pitch count" include balls fouled off after two strikes? If pitch count is used to assess a pitcher's strength, resiliency, both in the short- and long-term in the health of the pitcher and his arm, then those pitches should be included as well..after all, the pitcher's arm doesn't know they're foul balls; they do take a toll on the pitcher's arm. I've seen games where there were more than 20 balls fouled off after two strikes and were not include in the pitch count. Curious
