You can't compare -tough -old-time play for the pride baseball to the over paid drug enhanced, 100 times better trained players of today.
Records are only as good as players of the same decades. Every 10 years they should roll back to -0- and be judged by those 10 years.
As for great players. A truely great player was Pete Rose, though he did as many still do you still can not argue that he earned the hits he made.
Every sport is corrupt.
Also, noone is worth these big salaries.
When you think of baseball as a great game, your mind has to take you back to the 70's-80's when stealing a base was as much of the game as a man tossed out at second. Back then every play seemed to matter and be much more entertaining.
To even think of these salaries these players make takes so much away from the game.
How often do you see a pitcher pitch a complete game? Closers, what a joke. Pitch 6 pitches?
I can live with them memories of Willie, Manny, Roberto, Pete and those guys back then and say once they left, baseball sold out their fans.
Sosa & Bonds do nothing for the game but show kids cheat but don't get caught.
