GS, you hit the nail on the head. But I want to add a few things
They are too preoccupied with their other business. Omar Minaya has been left to run this sinking ship. The biggest reason the Mets will never beat the Steinbrenner owned Yankees, is because they're not hands-on owners.

The coaches and managers  from every phase in this organization, aren't teaching these kids baseball knowledge. They obviously don't pound fundamentals into their heads. They don't make players keep practicing how to bunt until it becomes second nature to them., Productive outs? Swinging at high pitches? When to take a pitch and why?. Calling for the ball? Catch with two hands? Learn the signs and indicator? Dogging it at the plate? These questions and more, Why are our players coming to play major  league baseball  if they haven't learn these skills.

Injuries. I honestly believe that the weight training has to be looked at. Too many muscular problems on this team. Pitchers shoulders and arms. Carlos Beltran has had a bad knee for three years now. Why wasn't it addressed before it caused him to go down? John Maine, he's had problems too. Why weren't they addressed earlier? And if the were, then we have problems with medical staff.

After Monday's press conference and later on the field. Omar Minaya turned himself into the laughing stock of pro baseball. Because some reporter outed your **** friend, you try to turn it around on that reporter. Bernazard has been a problem of theirs for years with his bloated racial ego. If it wasn't for that creep, Willie Randolph might still be here. I could go on, but my blood is boiling, and I've got to sstop.

The Wilpons refuse to pay the extra money for a few more star players that put teams over the top like the NYY ALWAYS do and a couple of (key) Met injuries becomes devasrating then.

This Mets continue to have too many holes to have to overcome on a day to day basis resulting in a team that is always competitive in recent years, but never quite good enough to get over the hump. I've listed some of the ongoing Met reasons below why they continue to fall short.

* Overall Starting Pitching is not very strong outside of Santana and doesn't match up well against other elite Starting Pitching staffs.

* Met batting order is very weak at the bottom of the order.

* Mets still don't have a true Lead-off Hitter.

* Mets lack HR power.

* Mets struggle with RISP

* METS ARE VERY WEAK WHEN IT COMES TO BEING FUNDAMENTALLY SOUND. EX's: Can't get a productive out and move runners, can't lay down a bunt, defense is terrible, swing at balls out of the strikezone, over-swing, not baseball intelligent etc.

* The team lacks a true leader.

* No eye of the tiger, rarely put teams away when they have a chance.

This team is so far away from winning anything that the Wilpons & Omar Minaya don't deserve our money. The Mets are constantly over-rated and they're just not that good STILL.

Any Met fan who still thinks the Mets can win anything worth mentioning is dreaming.
