Fair weather fans say the team's a disgrace to our city. They could be better (and maybe McLaine will finally realize he needs to open up his pocketbook and get some younger talent), but they are not terrible. The team wasn't in much better straits in 2005, and we ALL know what happened then. (I personally think a redux of that is in order, and they need to fire Coop in spite of that contract - they did Gardner).
True fans have seen this team a lot worse and a lot better, but enjoyed the games all the same. That's why I get so bugged at comments like "They're a disgrace to our city." I have not seen that with the Rockets when they were bad, nor the Oilers (hell, we had fans who were supporting them the year after they moved to Tennessee - and finally realized how crass some of the management of that team was) nor the Aeros, who until recently have played average most of the time.
WHo knows how this season will end up - could be good, could be bad, but it will be interesting. I think some of it's mind games (such as their loss on April 23 where a guy who should've been called out, got the roof call reversed and scored that first run), and others is the hitting - which they need to realize that stuff happens, it's time to suck it up and play hard.
(Ike BTW was an exception - I would expect NO team - not even the Cubs an excellent team - to have played well if they were under the same conditions the Astros had to).
