There is a certain luck in the Rockies' run, and it has to do with the teams that they drew and when they drew them.

The Cubs and the Rockies were the only reasonably balanced teams in the playoffs, The Phillies couldn't pitch, and in the short best of 3, pitching is king. I'm not so sure the Rox sweep a best of 4 with that team -- one game or another their offense is going to take over, and it is better than Colorado's.

The Diamondbacks couldn't hit consistently, and in a best of 7, you'd better be able to do that. Frankly the D-Backs had several opportunutues where some timely hitting would have given them some wins, but they just don't have those one or two go-to guys who are going to give them the best chance to get the key hit. And they were the recipients of an insane amount of luck to be where they were too (anyone who doubts that can check their pythag)

And the Cubs, the only team of the three that was likely to be any kind of threat to the Rockies with its explosive offense and veteran pitching, exited in the first round against the D-backs thanks to repeated struggles in their bullpen.

So the Rox, as a well-constructed and balanced team, rolled easily over 2 horribly constructed and unbalanced teams. O'Dowd won those two postseason series in March, it was just a question of whether it'd be a sweep or not.

But O'Dowd met his master against Epstein, who's done this for a long time and been far more successful at it than he, in a market that's actually smaller than Denver's if you take a second to look at it, and a team at least as well-constructed as his with more resources to work with in the construction.

Still, I have to say the Colorado Rockies definitely had a shot. 2 of those games, if not 3, were winnable for Colorado.

I think not being able to get more run support for Ubaldo against Schilling, Oki and Papelbon was what killed the Rockies in the series.

Still and all, no shame AT ALL in being the NL Champs even if it does mean your last memories of the Rockies for the year are sad ones. The Rockies and their fans should be nothing but proud of themselves.

All it takes is a few moments of investigation to determine that Red Sox Nation is anywhere the Red Sox play. In some places like Baltimore they out number the home crowd. The bias still is and always has been in favor of the Yankees, especially on Fox. You couldn't praise the Rockies yourself if you were announcing, not with their performance thus far, at least.

It takes away from the sport when it is presented in such a one sided fashion. It is the world series for goodness sakes. It takes more than luck to get to that point. Fox was horrible with the way they said the Rockies played the Cubs in the first series. They need to think before they speak.

I agree with you in this case. I actually live on the east coast, and I must say the announcers and pre-game analysts have been dismal- pathetic at best. I'm waiting for the moment when Buck asks Beckett and the rest of the team on a date. We have to admit that the Red Sox are picked as the favorite, but nobody seems to mention the fact that the Rockies have the highest defensive fielding percentage in baseball history, or mention that it is not a merit of luck why they are here. The Rockies have swept thier way to world series and nobody, not even the Fox announcers are giving them due credit

Did anyone happen to catch Jeanie Zalasco's comment about the Rockies in the pre-game show? They were discussing how the time off would affect the Rockies and she indicated that the Rockies getting to the World Series was luck. ARE YOU KIDDING? Did she miss that they SWEPT BOTH OF THEIR SERIES on the way to the World Series? What part of that looks like luck to you? I know they are an underdog, but don't insult their fans by dismissing the truly tremendous talent they showed to get to this place.

All I ask is that these commentators TRY to be professional and not slip into the horrendous bias that plagues the East Coast.
