bravesrock23]If you were to lock up your vets, they wouldnt make it to free agency. Chip, Jeter, never made it to free agency because they are the faces of the franchises.

Thats right...but when you have great expectations and one of your players goes down, you can't wait till next year to try again...that is why you go after Free wrote:

OK. Once again, the Braves did not sign Hampton. They traded crap for him, with the Rockies, who origionally signed him, and insurance paying for most of huge contract. I personally think Santana is the best pitcher in the game today. That is why I dont want the Braves to get him. We would most likely have to give up Frenchy, who the Twins would use in center, and the rest of the farm. Then we would have to sign him. The Braves dont have the money to do that. I think you feel the same wway, the part about the trade anyway. You dont want the yanks to give up any of the three pitchers coming up and let alone the asking price is two of em. I wouldnt trade them either.

So rocks...what if you guys do go out and buy a replacement.? I'm alright with that, remember I am a Yankee fan...Evil Empire...you know!
Lets say its Santana and you sign him for lets say $160 mil over 7 years. Now lets say he gets injured and can't picth for whatever reason...lets say he becomes another Pavano or Hampton. Does that make your team stupid or require ridicule from anyone?
I mean if you had a chioce today to sign Santana you would do it. Right?
Like I said...you never know.
Home grown talent works when you have enough seasoned veterans. Thats why you buy your veterans...its called free agency.
