When the Royals played the Cardinals in St Louis, Fox Sports asked who the Royals biggest rivals were, and something like 32% said the Cards were. Having lived in St Louis for many years before moving to Warrensburg, I doubt the Royals would even be in the Cardinals top ten rivals. Their biggest rivalry is with the Cubs, obviously. Then probably the Astros.
In the last couple years the Brewers have become more competitive, but for older fans like myself, I remember our intense rivalry with the Mets in the 80's, a shorter period when Barry Bonds was at Pittsburgh with the Pirates, and fairly frequent playoff appearances against the Dodgers and Braves.
The Royals have never been good enough in interleague play to create a rivalry with the Cards. In truth, Cardinal fans pretty much ignore the Royals. They certainly do not draw more fans to the ball park when they play at Busch Stadium. Usually, they draw fewer fans - more like when the Nationals come to town.
