ARE YOU FREAKIN' KIDDIN' ME...freakin' idiot sportswriters!

Monday, August 17, 2009, 10:04 PM CST [General]

I have been extremely busy getting ready for school to start this year and haven't the time...or...quite frankly...the interest to post anything new for quite a while. Something...probably...about not having the incredible desire to post nothing but dribbling...worthless stuff...to accumulate...worthless points...that I don't understand...and don't see their function...other than giving credit to...worthless dribbling. Anyway...I digress. In the past couple of days a few things have happened that fit the official/unofficial requirements of another ARE YOU FREAKIN' KIDDIN' ME post. Yep...ARE YOU FREAKIN' KIDDIN' ME...freakin' idiot sportswriters!!!

Most of you that follow sports...in any degree...know about the GREATEST UPSET in GOLF HISTORY yesterday. Yes...it finally happened...and instead of giving credit where credit is due...the sportswriters from this site and from other news agencies...have signalled...for all of us to see...that Tiger Woods is now...officially through. Tiger lost the lead...and ultimately the tournament yesterday (PGA Championship) to a guy who played nearly flawless golf...made the huge shots that Tiger normally makes in these situations...played comfortably...at least in outward appearance...and showed no signs of the stress that a multitude of higher ranked golfers have shown...when paired with Woods in the final group on Sunday. Woods' record of accomplishments speak for themselves. Fourteen Major tournaments won when going into final round with the lead...or a share of it. Seventy tournamnet wins. His record is exemplary...obviously. But guess what...you crazy...nutso...whacko's...who have elevated him to levels of immortality...before his 35 birthday...he's freakin' human after all...ARE YOU FREAKIN' KIDDIN' ME! And now...when the unthinkable (?) has happened...some of the freakin' idiot sportswriters...are fortelling his demise...at the ripe old age of...what...33. ARE YOU FREAKIN' KIDDIN' ME...freakin' idiot sportswriters! Here is a little hint for those of you that think Tiger is finished because of this loss. Vijay Singh has won something like 25 tournaments...after the age of 40. All I have read...or heard...is the fact that the Tiger "mystique" has been seriously damaged...and his ability to intimidate opponents will never be the same...and his putting will never be able to recover after the poor performance yesterday on the greens. ARE YOU FREAKIN' KIDDIN' ME...freakin' idiot sportswriters! What did he do in the last 3 weeks...finished second in one tournament and won the other two. And one bad putting Sunday...all of a sudden illustrates his demise! My guess is he finds some incredible motivation in this...and comes back with a vengeance. And when that happens...an incredible opportunity will have been lost by these freakin' idiot sportswriters. And that is...giving credit where credit is due...and outwardly acknowledging Mr. Yang's ultimate round of golf. He was as fun to watch yesterday as Tiger has been in the past. You know...unfortunately for Tiger Woods...the two things that have happened this year that should have been incredible for golf...have come at his expense. Tiger missing the cut at the British Open and yesterday's result...should be recognized as great things for the game of golf. Instead...we get to hear about how Tiger is all but done now. ARE YOU FREAKIN' KIDDIN' ME...freakin' idiot sportswriters!!!

Jay Glazer...FoxSports football guy...is travelling around spending time in NFL training camps. He just left the Vikings camp and...like an old cliche...fired up an old story...on the heels of the Vikings decision to move on...with the QB's they have in camp. Yep...this guy starts up the Favre drama all over again...AFTER the Vikings won their first pre-season game behind an effective Rosenfels and the struggling Jackson. WHY...WHY...WHY? ARE YOU FREAKIN' KIDDIN' ME...freakin' idiot sportswriters. With comments like he gets the feeling from talking to Ziggy Wilf that the Vikings are still actively pursuing Favre...and Favre really wants to play...but he wasn't quite...physically...there yet...AAAHHHRRRGGGG!!!! NOT AGAIN...PLEASE! This guy could have come into town and left without even asking a question about the "Wishy-Washy...Will He or Won't He" Favre...but...instead...he made it a point of his trip...to question virtually every rostered player...and some who aren't...about Brett "Not Today But Maybe Tomorrow" Favre. This is a team heading in the right direction...and can get where they want to go faster...without this distraction. But some "sportswriter" comes to town and instead of reporting on the progress this team is making...he brings up something we are all better off without. ARE YOU FREAKIN' KIDDIN' ME...freakin' idiot sportswriters!

    And that's the bottom line...

    Tryin' to laugh it off!

Thursday, July 30, 2009, 09:34 PM CST [General]

Okay...so since the inception of the "change" around here I've been pretty patient. And that is good because...after all...I'm a patient guy anyway. But I've tried to do something since this "change"...repeatedly...and haven't gotten anywhere. So...when that happens...and you have concerns...you go to the source...right? So I did that and now I'm in a situation where I'm really tryin'to laugh it off. Here is my dilemna.

Since the "change" I navigated...and I...fooled around with...different things until I got to a point where I was somewhat satisfied with my ability...which has always been a bit...lacking...for lack of a better word...to handle the technology...satisfactorily...for me. Except for one thing. I updated my profile and I eventually found a way to...change my status...and I established friends and even joined a group and...wow...started a group of my own. Stunned...aren't you? But no matter how many times I...update...change...fool with...I have not been able to...get MY FAVORITE TEAMS and FAVORITE PLAYERS to show up! I have re-done these things until...quite honestly...I'm startinig to get confused on who my FAVORITE TEAMS or FAVORITE PLAYERS are! I know the Oklahoma Sooners belong in my FAVORITE TEAM section as do...from the NFL...none...MLB...the Minnesota Twins...and the NHL...the Detroit Red Wings and Minnesota Wild. I've hit redo...to...redo...so many times it...actually...is...sadly...funny! I've hit the redo so many times on my FAVORITE PLAYERS that I'm starting to feel...well...somewhat...creepy...about it. So...I went to the source. I went to Fox Sports.com into their support site and followed the directions...just like I do when...I redo...and left them an e-mail explaining my dilemna. Then...of course...I asked them what I was doing wrong. The following is the original e-mail from me and their response:

COMMENTS: I have been blogging here for a couple of years and have been trying to navigate through the changes you set up for blogging. I have issues with some of the new things but right now I want to know why I can edit my profile and that seems to work alright but when I select my favorite teams and my favorite players they have never shown up on my profile or hub page. I have done them and re-done them according to directions and yet they still do not show up. Why is that and how can I get them to
    appear where they should?

Hey, Peter...thanks a lot for the response...and...for basically...nothing! My FAVORITE PLAYERS and MY FAVORITE TEAMS still do not appear...where they should.

But...hey...I'm tryin' to laugh it off. I know it isn't the end of the world and I'm probably...no don't say it...over-reacting...but...I'm tryin' to laugh it off! Why not? In 7 days I can do it again.

Kind of like I'm tryin' to laugh off the incredible amount of new people who post...virtual dribble...or those who...don't recognize their commentors...either ever...or...by just pumping in the..."To all of you who commented" standard. And maybe it is just me. Maybe...and I'm just...spitballing here...but...maybe this site ain't for me anymore. I set up "friends" to be able to access their posts because...they like the recognition...and the identification of commentors...on their posts. They like the banter generated by...blogging. But most of them aren't blogging as regularly as they/we used to. And a lot of the comments have to do with...the "changes"...on this site.

They seem to want to know about us...but then...they don't seem to care who...or what...or why...people are blogging here.

Anyway...back to things I'm tryin' to laugh off.

I'm really tryin' to laugh off...people who think Michael Vick DESERVES a job in the NFL. Or that the NFL and Commissioner Goodell OWED Vick another chance. Or people who think the Commissioner was too harsh on him when he reinstated him. Gimme a freakin' break. He is a convicted criminal. Yea...he served his time and paid his dues to society. But to say that because he did that he DESERVES a job in the NFL...or he is OWED an opportunity to get his old job back...or to be ticked off because he has to sit out the first 6 weeks of the regular season...when he has been reinstated...is completely...asinine! He should be thankful he has another chance and his...fans and followers...should be thankful that he is in the position he is in. UNFREAKINBELIEVABLE!

I'm really tryin' to laugh off...those people who think the Minnesota Vikings are going to be marginal instead of spectacular...because Brett Favre decided...FINALLY...for the moment...to stay retired. PAHHHLEEEAASE!!!! Now...maybe...the focus will be on the two guys who have done all the work this off-season to be fully prepared to...COMPETE...for the QB job...instead of just handing it over to Ol' "Used to be Great...not so much anymore" Brett Favre. Tarvaris Jackson has stayed in Minnesota this off-season working out and becoming more in tune with the playbook and systems...while his family is in Houston. This kid is sacrificing for the opportunity to win the job. Brett will be sacrificing...a little...EGO stroke now and then...by staying retired. I'd rather have Jackson who is at least making the effort. As for Rosenfels and Booty...they should all be glad Favre decided to finally end the charade. Competition is the best ingredient in finding the best. Now these three guys can get at it. And...I will go so far as to say...if they use the weapons they have...correctly and efficiently...they could go a long way. Even with Brad Childress as their coach.

I'm really tryin' to laugh off...those people that got sooooooooo upset when Tiger Woods didn't make the cut at the British Open...that...they...verbally attacked anyone who said they didn't miss Tiger that weekend...at all. These folks hold him to a standard that can't possibly be maintained...week in and week out! He is human for cryin' out loud. Human's...miss...cuts...in golf tournaments. And...quite honestly...when this particular human missed the cut...it was as good for golf as...all of the positive things he has done...has been good for golf. One guy got so worked up he was ripping Tom Watson...continually...instead of...giving credit where credit is due. Even Tom Watson knew how special he was playing because he knows that...guys his age don't generally have the game...that they used to. And they certainly haven't shown the ability to stay that competitive with the younger guy...like Woods or Mickelson...or...whoever! Gear up, folks! Woods is committed to play for the next 3 weekends in a row! Heaven forbid he have an off-weekend! But...for the record...I would like to see him win the PGA Championship in Minnesota in a few weeks. Just...because...I like Tiger, too! I just don't worship him like...some folks...apparently do!

I'm really tryin' to laugh off...the people who act surprised that David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez failed a drug test in 2003. Or the people who have to post the "anonymous" list of the players who failed those tests for PED's in baseball. Hey, folks. When the investigation was started the initial intent...as has been verified by Faye Vincent...Bud Selig's predecessor...was NOT to identify the players who failed these tests...but to determine HOW MANY players were using PED's. However, it has never really been anonymous...the list that I have seen floating around here lately...is the same list that was floating around here when the Court of Public Opinon was crucifying Barry Bonds. Selig never had any intention of keeping the list "anonymous." It is just another way to deflect any of the responsibility for PED's away from him...or his fellow owners! By the way...one gets my perspective on Selig by my last sentence. He IS an owner.

I'm really tryin' to laugh off...the Civil Suit that Ben Roethlesberger finds himself involved in for allegedly raping a woman in Vegas...and the sneaky little scumbag that videotaped Erin Andrews strolling around her hotel room in the buff...but...I don't find anything particularly funny in either of those incidents...so I can't laugh 'em off.

I'm really tryin' to laugh off...people who blog entire baseball games...Fox Sportswriters who post about 15 blogs a day so they can receive 3 total comments...bloggers who go crazy with 1 paragraph blogs so they can hurry and be something other then...a starter...or a prospect. I'm really tryin' to laugh off...the effects of this "change" situation around here...the ineptitude of the technologically talented people here...who can't get all the bugs worked out...after all this time...of not being able to find my "friends" posts when scanning the blogs...and having to go to their connections at my profile site to see what they are up to.

I'm really tryin' to laugh off...the fact that the College Football season is still...too freakin' far away!

And I'm really tryin' to laugh off...all of the people around here lately...who really...have nothing...to say...but say it anyway!

Ho, ho! Ha, ha! I'm laughing my butt off here.

    And that's the bottom line...

    BOOMER SOONER!!!

    Here We Freakin' Go Again!

Thursday, July 23, 2009, 06:18 PM CST [General]

Last day of vacation and as I prepare to go home I was watching ESPN today and...not to my surprise...a report on Brett Favre's return to the NFL with...the...Minnesota Vikings! Here We Freakin' Go Again! Seems Ol' Brett is a bit "conflicted" about joining the Vikings this year. A couple of weeks ago he didn't know if his surgically repaired arm would be ready. Then word got out that the Vikings...for the second time (?)...asked for a commitment from Brett...before training camp starts. Then the fervor over Brett died down for a bit. But...in light of recent developments...Big Ben's legal issues over alleged rape of woman in Lake Tahoe...Erin Andrews getting videotaped through the proverbial "keyhole" walking around nude in her hotel room...Lance Armstrong running behind in the Tour de France...Tiger missing the cut and an old timer...Tom Watson making a strong push at the British Open...good old Brett needed to find a way to transport himself back into the sportsworld spotlight!

Yep! Here We Freakin' Go Again! Brett say's he is conflicted about joining the Vikings and according to a "source close to the situation" he would have already decided to stay in retirement...except that...important...members...of the...Vikings...have been calling him...begging him to play. Adrian Peterson...Jared Allen...and others have supposedly called Brett begging the future HOF'er to strap it on for another year. "We can win it all if only you would come out and play, Brett!" Again...Brett...your timing for remaining in the sportsworld spotlight is...astounding! I'm curious as to what the conflict is this time. With his arm it almost made sense. Right now it sounds like the ego needs major stroking...AGAIN!

Hey, speaking about Big Ben...Here We Freakin' Go Again! I'm not even going to venture an opinion on whether he did it...or didn't! The Court of Public Opinion will determine that long before the Civil Suit is ever heard. My issue is simply this...when will these guy's learn! Highly paid professional athletes are a target! The celebrity...the money...the care-free lifestyle...make all of them targets! SO WHY PUT YOURSELF IN THE POSITION! Tell us you didn't do it! "Reckless and false" as Ben says the allegations are...why are you in this position? Didn't...or better yet...shouldn't...Kobe Bryant's situation have served as a lesson...to everyone! Hey...Big Ben...sorry your television didn't work right...take a nap instead of letting a female employee in your room...alone with you...so you could get the sound! It is sad that a man should have to do that but...doesn't it beat the aalternative to what he has to deal with now. Of course...there is the "other side of the coin" and maybe Big Ben...well...that isn't for me to say! My point is...use your freakin' head when facing situations that could...possibly...get you...in trouble. Unless...!

What...a celebrity has had their privacy violated...yep...Here We Freakin' Go Again! Erin Andrews is an attractive woman and I admit I enjoy watching her as she works...like many male sports fans. The Little League World Series and College Football have an extra enjoyment factor when she works them. Great! Simple and end of story once the event is over. Now...apparently...some scumbag knows where she is staying...knows when she is in her room...and knows she likes to walk around nude when in her room. So...said scumbag videos her through the "keyhole" and sells the tape. It appears online and all media outlets are upset. This one is extremely pathetic! When a person can't walk around in a rented room...sans clothing...without being violated by a peeping VideoVermin...there are serious problems. With the VideoVermin and with the outlets who buy the video and get it online ASAP! I hope they get caught and I hope they pay...more than what they stole! Of course...considering that someone's privacy and dignity were stolen...my guess is...the fine won't fit the crime! Of course...this has happened before hence the...Here We Freakin' Go Again tag!

Spent the past 10 days in Oklahoma City helping my dad out at his house. Did some cleaning and repairing of things he can't do by himself. Of course...we golfed 4 times which is always a good time. While here I found a new sport to follow and support. I absolutely love College Football and for me...as some of you know...there is no better team than the Oklahoma Sooners! "Sooner born, Sooner bred, and when I die I'll be a Sooner dead...and all of that. But we spent last Saturday at the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium watching Jennie Finch, Cat Osterman, Lauren Lappin, Andrea Duran, Monica Abbott...and other young USA fastpitch softball players win a World Cup Tournament on their home field! These young ladies play hard and they are exciting to watch. The enthusiasm and intensity and the fun they have is obvious from pre-game prep to the final out and then some. It really is too bad the International Olympic Committee removed this sport from the next summer Olympics. They are mounting efforts to get it reinstated by 2016. What...politics affecting athletics...Oh, no...Here We Freakin' Go Again!

Heading home tomorrow and still...College Football...is...too...freakin'...far...away! AGGGHHWWW!!! Let's Play Some Freakin' Football!

    And that's the bottom line...

    Boomer Sooner!!!

Are you freakin' kidding me...Here we freakin' go again!!!

Tuesday, July 7, 2009, 11:04 PM CST [General]

On Lisa's "test" post she informed us that we were 59 days away from College Football season. Most of us College Football fans agreed with the sentiment that 59 days is a long way off. Too long for most of us. And now we got to deal with Utah Senator Orrin Hatch calling for the Justice Department to investigate the BCS for violation of "antitrust laws." ARE YOU FREAKIN' KIDDING ME??? HERE WE FREAKIN' GO AGAIN!!! The 59 days just got a lot longer. Whats up Orrin...not enough things to do in the Senate now-a-days?

First of all let me say that I'm all for a playoff system in College Football. I haven't been a big supporter of it in the past but the last few years have weakened me. The thing is that I don't see a playoff format being developed without seriously jeopardizing the regular season. You would have to shorten the regular season significantly to put in a playoff system. Sports like the NHL and the NBA and MLB are almost comical in how almost unimportant the regular season is. To spice up interest they have basically delved deeper into the team pools and created a couple of more rounds of playoffs in these sports. So, what ends up happening is that we have the Stanley Cup playoffs going on deep into June...the NBA going as long as that if not longer...and MLB plays 162 regular season games before their playoffs start...and then we have the World Series in October...when it is generally cold outside...and in some cases sleeting and snowing during the ball game. I enjoy the hell out of College Football's Regular Season. I don't want it shortened at all. Now, if they could get a playoff format put together that would have them playing during the month between the end of the regular season and the bowl season...then so be it. OOOPS! Then that isn't fair to all of the other non-BCS bowls...is it? All of these leagues running over into each other creates a...kind of...conflict...of...interest...for the sports dollar...doesn't it? Let's investigate...oh, well... anyway...I digress!

So Senator Hatch wants the Justice Department to investigate the BCS. And this would happen as soon as they finish investigating other sports issues instead of investigating things that really matter...like...domestic terrorism...or...stuff...like...that! Why not, I guess! You know it only follows. Our new President is doing voice overs for Disney rides, commenting on Michael Jackson's death and his importance in our world and trying his best to "reach out" to all of those countries that don't like us much. His wife is becoming the greatest fashion plate First Lady since Jackie O. So if Hatch needs this to be done I would guess Obama would support him. I wonder how we are viewed in other countries when our political leaders are calling for our government organizations to investigate our sports organizations. I wouldn't take us very seriously. I mean...after all...the judicial system isn't finished with MLB and steroids yet! Bonds hasn't been to trial yet...Clemens is...who knows what the hell Roger is doing...Big Mac still won't say anything and Selig just lost his dance partner...Donald Fehr...to retirement. By the time the Justice Department gets through all of these investigations and jumps on the BCS for Senator Hatch...the BCS may be moot anyway! Hell...the way things are going...a lot of things we know and love may be moot! So...Senator Hatch...quit wasting time on the BCS and get something done for all the people in this country...not just the ones who complain about the BCS! And maybe try to re-focus your peers into doing the same thing. I know...like what should we try to do about North Korea aiming missles at Hawaii and firing off 7 of them...as a little test! Let's pamper them but get all over the BCS...shall we?Hey... the BCS may be good for the economy. People need to work those bowl games. Eh, whatever!

ARE YOU FREAKIN' KIDDING ME? See where Fox Sports writer Jason Whitlock said it like it is...and ripped the recently murdered Steve McNair for being a poor father. I think that somewhere in his ramble he made the point that being their for your kids when they need you is crucial...to which I agree very much. But when lumping all of us into the male behavior machine I think he spoke a bit...well...generally...to which he offends the hell out of me. So...HERE WE FREAKIN' GO AGAIN!!! The following are direct quotes from Whitlock's article.

As for the life-experience, station-in-life disparity between a retired millionaire quarterback and a Dave & Buster's waitress, well, let he who has never Captained cast the first hoe.

Every man I know has a little Captain in him. We see a pretty young thang working her way through nursing or cosmetology school and it's just in our nature to pay a cellphone bill, a car note or get her nails done.

It's what we do. And if you've earned a chunk of change in professional sports or in corporate America, you might buy a big black Escalade in her name, fly her to Vegas or go parasailing over the ocean.

So, Jason...I've never paid someone else's cell phone bill, or car note, or got her nails done...unless the person I was doing those things for was...my wife...one of my daughters...or one of my grand-daughters. So...while I may agree with the final assessment of Whitlock on McNair and his parenting skills...or lack of them...I'm glad I ain't one of Whitlock's running dogs...one of the "every man he knows" kind of guy!

And here is another quality little post from JW on Serena Williams. Jason wants her to get into shape and become a monster of the Womens Tennis circuit. She could own the world ala Tiger Woods...Roger Federer...Margaret Court...Martina Navratilova...etc., etc. If only she would concentrate on her tennis and not her diet. ARE YOU FREAKIN' KIDDING ME? Why does everyone need to be the greatest ever? The following are some of his comments on Serena.

She's chosen to smother some of it in an unsightly layer of thick, muscled blubber, a byproduct of her unwillingness to commit to a training regimen and diet that would have her at the top of her game year-round.

Serena simply isn't obsessed with tennis perfection. She seems to play the game solely because she's good at it. Not because she has a burning desire to be the best there ever was. That is her right.

He then mentions that it is his right to rip her for not being a tennis assassin. What is it that gives him that right? Again...ARE YOU FREAKIN KIDDING ME??? HERE WE FREAKIN' GO AGAIN!!! If Serena Williams wants to concentrate solely on Grand Slams and not get it together for the rest of the tournaments...who should really give a crap! Hey...Jason...maybe she doesn't want all the crap that comes from being the very best every week of her life. Look at the circus that follows Tiger Woods around. Look at all of the people who rip him for not doing enough for Black America. Maybe she doesn't want to be the "role model" (overused and totally unnecessary responsibility) for every little girl who plays tennis...or any other sport for that matter. Who are you to put those responsibilities on her? At the end of the day...she will answer to herself on how she lived her life and what she accomplished. She won't answer to you as I suspect not many people do anyway. Maybe that is why you feel the need to put all of the responsibility of living a life she may not want to live on her. Personally...in this world of once you get to the top...you become someone's target...I can appreciate her for doing it the way she wants to do it. I'm guessing you are feeling cheated by not being able to rip her enough after she gets to the top...all the time. And as we guage our "sports heroes" by how they performed in the greatest of events with the greatest challenges...she should be able to talk all she wants about her 11 Grand Slam titles and being ranked #2 in the world behind someone who...ain't...quite...there...yet! And that's the bottom line!!!

    Got to love your tennis!

Monday, July 6, 2009, 07:28 PM CST [General]

Anybody watch the Wimbedon Final between Federer and Roddick? What a great match. Roddick has done something I waited on for a long time. He finally matured. Picked his spots and played extremely well. Federer is...well...he is Roger Federer! Never panicked or lost his composure in the face of an opponent who payed a great tennis match. I loved it. But you know what? It's getting to the point now where you have to love your tennis like a Wimbledon ball girl...or boy...to sit down and watch it anymore.

Why would I say that? Do you ever notice these kids running all over the place for errant tennis balls while a world of suspense and intrigue and the highest levels of competition go on around them? How do these kids get selected to work...say...the Wimbledon Final? Is it collective greatness throughout the tournament? You know...off the wall at just the right moment to keep the "out" serve from crashing back into the world class player...before it ever hits the wall! The perfectly timed leap from the net to track down an errant shot into the net...before it rolls another inch...thereby slowing the pace of a player who is in a hurry...like...say...Federer was on several occasions on Sunday. You know what I'm talking about if you tuned into the match. Roddick would walk up to the line, hold his hand up asking Roger to wait a second...and then...wham...Federer serves the ball anyway! Always having a dry towel and a smile on their face...or is it a dry towel and a grimmace of concentration! I'll say this much. They have to love the game to stand around there and put up with all the pressure...and nary a thank you...from the world class athetes competeing in front of their very eyes. These people point, hold out their hands in some form of quiet demand of the ball person just to have the new ball they gave them swatted back at them. Okay...they don't swat it hard but...you know! I still think these kids got to ove their tennis to put up with that. Well...maybe they get a nice tip after the match from the players...but they still got to love their tennis.

And as a spectator...at least on television...you got to love your tennis, too! Why? I know I can turn down the volume...and quite often do...when John McEnroe tries to make a point. This guy was...as a player...what you might consider a bit too competitive...even in a competitive world which is professional tennis. I always thought he was a bit...oh...I guess..high strung...might work! But he pushed it to a point where I think he was trying to be the clown he was acting like...on purpose. You know the old saying about it being better to be thought a fool rather than opening our mouth and removing all doubt? He played his career ignoring that little creed and he is doing it again as a commentator. I wonder if this little guy has ever been anywhere near a boxing match in his entire life. And yet he constsantly draws comparisons between a tennis match and a prize fight...or participants of each. I get so sick and tired of him making reference to a guy holding serve being like a guy who just took the opponents best punch to the solar plexis. What do you think a professional fighter thinks about whenever he hears that. Can you imagine Mike Tyson's response to that. "C'mon, McEnroe? Lemme hit you with a body shot under the kitneys and thee what you think!" Tholar plexis my ear chompin' ass!" Or how about when Roddick couldn't put Federer away in the tiebreak in the second set and McEnroe commenting on how Federer coming back was like a fighter getting off the canvas in a great comeback. I think John McEnroe missed out on his true calling life. I think he really wanted to be a little thug but instead he became a pretty fair tennis player who has carried that into a modest career as a tennis commentator. And whle I don't play the game on a competitive level...it sn't that hard a sport to follow. Just sayin'...!

I think we should have a match event. I think McEnroe should have to get in a boxing ring with...any fighter with any experience...in his weight class...and see how comparable the two are. And when it is over he can say that holding serve is definately NOT like taking a shot in the solar plexis. I understand comparisons in sports and trying to create the imagery of the event. But listening to McEnroe during that match did absolutely nothing to heighten the imagery of the event. It did...however...heighten the imagery of the little guy McEnroe taking one on the chin. I guess I should thank him for that.

Speaking of tennis! How is it that Serena Williams wasn't the number one player in the world in women's tennis prior to her winning Wimbledon? Apparently I'm not the only one wondering about that. When she was plaing with the press during her press conference after winning the tournament everybody was getting a big laugh from comments like, "I guess I'll just stay at number two with my major victories and she can stay at number 1 with...!" What has this Safin done to be ranked so high? I don't know how they rank them but it only seems to me...and the press covering Wimbledon...and Serena...that there is something amis in the world of women's tennis. Speaking of...check the seeding next year for the women's doubles and see if there aren't any questions about that, either.

And now...a blast from the past! As I came on here to post this I noticed a post from...Lisa Horne. Didn't read it yet but noticed it was there. She has surfaced in this sea of...whatever it is you want to call this Fox Sports revamp! But...she is alive and apparently well! That is good to see even if she irritates me sometimes and even if I irritate her. Hey folks, the bottom line to all of that with Lisa and I is this. We respect each others opinions even if we don't agree with each other all the time. And that...to me...is what this blogging thing is all about. The back and forth with differing opinions. Not having to read force fed Sportswriters with only one opinion who couldn't care less for communal banter in response to their posts. I'm seeing a whole lot more of those people around here in this changing atmosphere that is the Fox Sports Blog site. Personally...I'm now ecstatic that I see Lisa is here. Now if I could just figure out how to add friends (I feel like the boy next door who just moved into the neighborhood) and get to ther places in m profile. And that's the bottom line!

    BOOMER SOONER!!!
