One step forward, two steps back!

Tuesday, October 7, 2008, 06:41 PM EST [General]

I've never in my years of watching the New Orleans Saints can remember them ever having as many injuries as what has happened so far this season. Well we can add another player to the list because rookie starter at CB Tracy Porter is done for the season with a dislocated wrist that will require surgery.

This team is losing an average of 2 players a week since the season started and we are only going into week 6. The real bad part about this injury is now Jason David who was benched because he couldn't cover a bed with a blanket will probably take over as the # 2 CB. Remember the Saints D was one of the worst defenses against the pass last season...David was to blame for most of the huge plays that they gave up.

Porter was playing relatively well as a rookie and had beat out Jason David, Randall Gay and second year corner Usama Young for the starting position. He was showing signs of possibly being what is called a shut down corner and the future is promising for this young kid. His progress will now be delayed until next season.

This doesn't bode well for the Saints at all because David was also the man who was beat last night on the long pass play that put the Vikings in field goal range, which they eventually kicked and won the game. Us Saints fans can look for it to be an even longer season now but here's the good news, atleast we'll possibly get a nice first round draft pick. Saints better make it a good one considering we gave up so many picks to aquire LB Jonathan Vilma and Jeremy Shockey...oh yeah the latter player just so happens to be hurt and out for a few more weeks also.

Here's some good news though, next game is against the Oakland Raiders, so maybe...well nevermind about that. I guess we'll just have to sit back and see how the rest of the season goes, although I am not very optomistic at all.

Is it time for the NBA yet?

    Week 5 Saints and Sinners!

Tuesday, October 7, 2008, 08:23 AM EST [General]

Well the New Orleans Saints looked like the "Bad news Bears" of the NFL last night on prime time T.V. in front of the whole nation. They gift wrapped a win for the Vikings and consistantly shot themselves in the foot. Without further ado here's this weeks "Saints and Sinners."

    Saints:

Reggie Bush- Bush had a very productive night, especially in the return game. He tied an NFL record with two punt returns for Td's becoming just the 12th player in NFL history to do so.Both returns came in the second half and were crucial in helping the Saints turn a 20-10 deficit into a 27-20 lead. He almost returned another, but tripped on the turf. The Saints turned that into a field goal that tied the game at 20.

Drew Brees- Brees was as cerebral as he's been all season long. Drew Bress threw for 330 yards, however everything he did was over shadowed by mistake after mistake from his teamates. Anyone who doesn't say he's the best Qb playing right now is simply just a homer or in denial.

Devery Henderson- Henderson was the recipient of some great passes from Brees. Henderson caught a pass for 52 yds on one play and ended the night with 104 yds receiving. Henderson has a rediculous yds per catch total of over 40.

Defense-The defense played exceptional, which is very surprising because it's the weakest point on the team. They held phenom A.P. to just 32 yds rushing for the game. Hats off to Garry Gibbs and his players for a great scheme. This is two weeks in a row that the defense has played well. Seems each week they get better and better.

Jo-Lon Dunbar- He gets in this week simply for the block he made on the first punt return by Reggie Bush. He decleated a Viking defender who never seen the hit coming. This kid continues to play with lots of energy and will someday be a nice LB for some team, hopefully the Saints.

Roman Harper- He is one of the main reasons A.P. didn't torch the Saints for about 250 yds. He filled the gaps and was in on almost every tackle for short yards that A.P. had. Harper is without a doubt the best tackler and with the exception of Mike McKenzie the best defensive back the Saints have.

Tracy Porter- The rookie played one of his best games to date. I have the feeling had he not been hurt on that great but lucky catch by Benard Berrian in which players collided, he'd had not been burned the way Jason David was that set Minn. up for the winning field goal.

    Sinners:

Offensive line- The constant false starts and holding penalties are part of what did the Saints in last night. Although the protection of Brees was relatively good there were times that they had trouble picking up the blitz. I credit the Minn. D though for doing a great job with that.

Robert Meachem- Wr's and false starts aren't supposed to happen...at all! He was called once for it but actually was guilty twice when the refs called the wrong number on another. Coach Shaun Payton seems to not like to play the kid much already and if not for injuries I doubt he'd even touch the field again. He needs to get his act together or he'll find himself on another roster next season possibly.

Lance Moore- It's hard to pick on Moore who has been a constant pro and a very sure handed receiver for the Saints. However the bobbled ball that hit his knee in the red zone really hurt. Not that the Vikings scored from it but it took away a possible score by the Saints.

Gramatica- Ok can any Saints fan explain to me why we waste a draft pick on a kicker only to cut him? Twice in three weeks Gramatica has missed a field goal that possibly lost the game for the Saints. Groin injury or not it's time to cut our losses with this old man. His confidence will surely be shaken after this game and there's not telling just how many more times he'll miss a few field goals. Bring back the rookie who has a seriously strong leg.

Jason David- Once again he has shown that the only thing he is consistant at is getting burned. On the deep pass that set up the winning field goal David was covering Benard Berrian. Tracy Porter was out with a hand injury suffered during the TD pass collision. He is another player the Saints payed lots of money to 2 years ago and just need to cut their losses with. I played DB in high school and would play for the league min. knowing I couldn't do any worse than this punk!

Referees- Now I'm not one to use the refs as an excuse because I feel that regardless all these players are pro's and should be able to get pass that. What bothers me is two things; 1. The face mask on Reggie Bush that in turn resulted in a fumble. It's not like Bush was in a pile or close to the ground. He was clearly up right running and there is no way to justify how they missed that call. 2. The fumble or better yet non fumble by A.P.! That was clearly a fumble and never in my years of watching football have I ever heard it explained that a player was losing the ball but gripped it with one hand when his knee touched the ground. It was a fumble and there is no way anyone will make me see it any other way.

So there you go guys that's this weeks Saints and sinners. New Orleans should have won this game easily but such wasn't what happened. They have only themselves to blame for letting this game get sloppy on their part.

Note to my friends here: Due to this site and the idiots who run it after I am done competeing in Mike Greenspires blogger competition I'll be leaving. I am sick of the bullshit that goes on, the constant favortism and censorship has gotten out of hand. I have asked one blogger who works here to tell the techs that my blogs do not show up in most commented or recently commented blogs box and well nothing has been done to fix this. I even wrote them on 3 seperate occasions about this problem that has been going on for a litle over 7 months now. All I get is an automated email that says they'll look into the problem but once again nothing has been done. It shows me that either their are nothing but morons working for them or that they don't even give a damn, as long as they are making money off of you and me that's all that matters.

Not sure what I'll do or where I'll be once I leave. I will let all of you know before hand and if I do move on to another site, I hope you'll visit me there. Have a great week guys/ladies and God bless you and the family.

NFL Bloggers competition: AFC South not what it once was...

Monday, October 6, 2008, 09:05 AM EST [General]

With the exception of the Tenn. Titans no team in the AFC South is as good as the past couple of seasons. The conference has a total of 9 wins, 5 of those wins by the unbeaten Titans. The division also has the same amount of losses as wins, that's surprising when you consider the teams that make up the AFC South.

The Colts have to be the most surprising team in this division to me. The have arguably the best Qb in the league and a very potent offense all together. However Peyton Manning hasn't looked all that great this season after off season surgery and I think Marvin Harrison is on the decline. The defense isn't playing with much purpose, even though they have never been the strong point of this team.Considering it was just a few seasons ago they won a Super Bowl the defense played exceptional during those playoffs. I think they'll make the playoffs but this team doesn't have anyone in the league scared of them.

They have yet to win a game at home and are 1-1 in the division and are pretty lucky to have even beat the Texans on Sunday. If not for the mishaps of a backup Qb then the Colts might not be a .500 ball club at this point.

The Texans are a bad ball club and that's saying it nicely. This team can't win a game even when they clearly have a win in their back pocket. At 0-4 they can start thinking about next season already. History shows that teams who start the season winless in their first 4 games don't go on to do much. They have no productive play at the Qb position and with the exception of Andre Johnson they don't have much else on offense. The Defense has some pretty good players namely Mario Williams and DeMeco Ryans, but after that the defense is hollow.

They are 0-3 within the division and that just doesn't bode well for the Texans who had some promise comeing into the season. They should be putting together a plan on what Qb they'll be drafting this April.

After a successful 2007 season and some great Qb play the Jaguars haven't exactly played up to that same potential. David Garrard although I believe he's a good Qb hasn't performed quite as good as he did last season. The defense is'nt the monster it has been in past season as well. They'll be in a dog fight all season with the Colts just to be second in this division. I'm not sure if they'll make a playoff push, although I think if they certainly have the team to do it.

At 2-3 they need to play with a sense of urgency and not let the Colts get far away from them. I do think they are a better team than the Colts but any team with Peyton Manning and Reggie Wayne can put together a string of wins. It will be interesting to see what Coach Jack Del rio can do from heere on out.

The Titans just might be the best team in the NFL right now! The defensive line is relentless and Haynesworth is almost unblockable. I also happen to believe that coach Jeff Fisher is the best coach in the NFL who hasn't won a Super Bowl. The Man just wins and gets the best out of his players. He was also smart to start Kerry Collins over Vince Young, who in my opinion isn't a team player. They'll easily win this division and baring injuries will probably only lose 3 or less this season. They are getting great production from the Rb position and Collins is a vet. who takes care of the ball and does enough to help this offense score. The defense is the best in the league hands down. I'll go out on a limb and say the Titans will be in the Super Bowl and if they are healthy I can't see any NFC team beating them.

The Titans are 2-0 in the division and 4-0 in the conference. Their Schedule is very favorable for them to have the best record in the AFC come playoff time.

As a whole the AFC South may not be the worst division in football but as of right now it's not even the best in the AFC. I and I'm sure amny others expected more from the Colts and Jaguars, both playoff teams last season. The season is still relatively early and anything can happen from here on out.

Brees selected as NFC offensive player of the month

Friday, October 3, 2008, 07:27 AM EST [General]

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees is the main reason the Saints are an even relevent team these past 3 seasons. In fact Brees as been as good if not better throwing the ball than Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, widely considered the best two QB's in the game today.

Brees has been the staple of coach Shaun Paytons offensive arial attack along with receiver Marques Colston. However Brees has been without Colston this 3 out of it's first 4 games. That hasn't hinderd Brees one bit as he continues to fire away and find Wr's like Lance Moore,Robert Meachem and Devery Henderson none of which are household names consistantly open for huge gains.

In September Brees completed 107-of-148 passes (72.3 percent) for 1,343 yards, with eight touchdowns and a 106.9 passer rating. Over the course of the first month of regular season play, Brees leads the NFL in completions, completion percentage and passing yards, ranks second in attempts and average gain, and third in passer rating.

Despite losing top targets WR Marques Colston, TE Jeremy Shockey and WR David Patten due to injuries during the first four contests, Brees still averaged 335.7 passing yards per game

    Week 4 Saints and Sinners!

Monday, September 29, 2008, 12:09 PM EST [General]

Week 4 was a good one for Saints fans as a few injured players returned to the lineup. It was great to have Scott Fujita back on defense but the there was one player whom the Saints fans have been waiting to see...

    Saints:

Deuce Mcallister: The anticipation to see Deuce back in the lineup has been building for the past two weeks. he gained 73 yds  1  TD on 20 carries and the chants of Deuce could be heard for miles away from the dome. There were some signs of just how healthy Deuce was, on his first carry he was seemingly stopped for maybe a yard but pushed the pile of S.F defenders that were drapped all over him for 5 yds. Also on his lone TD Deuce jumped over the goal line for an easy score. I think it's safe to say not only is he healthy but opposing defenses will be seeing a healthy dose of McAllister.

Drew Brees: Brees is having absolutely his best season as a Saint so far. He's passing for 300 + yds a game, all this and he's without his two biggest threats Marques Colston and Jeremy Shockey. That hasn't stopped Brees one bit as it seems it doesn't matter who is out there and Brees disects a defense as good as any QB in the game. Brees has a QB rating of 106.9 so far and has thrown for 1,343 yds with 8TD's.

Lance Moore: Moore stepped up huge this week with two TD's and 7 catches for 101 yds and two TD's. With Colston and Shockey injured and not due back for a few more weeks, they needed one of it's recievers to really stand up...Moore was that man. He has very reliable hands and has a nack for find an open spot underneath the defense when they play zone.

Robert Meachem: All this guy does is make huge play after huge play when given the opportunity to do so. He caught a long pass play that was defended perfectly on a flea flicker and also burned the defender for another long TD pass from Brees. This young man should be seeing more playing time and could be even more dangerous once Colston returns.

The Defense: I could have broke this down into certain player because there were a few that stood out. However I think they played well as a unit by first holding Frank Gore under 100 yds. Then the D-Line sacked J.T. O'Sullivan 5 times. 2 for DE Charles Grant, 1 for DE Will Smith, 1 each for DT Sedrick Ellis and Kendrick Clancy. Rookie Tracy Porter had a sack and an interception yesterday. S Kevin Kaesviharn also had an interception as well.

Shaun Payton: He goes in as a Saint this week simply for finaly playing Deuce McAllister.

Def. Coordinator Gary Gibbs: Like Payton he has gained criticism from fans the last two weeks. However yesterday he got more creative with his schemes and blitz an aweful lot. Funny how I said that he needed to blitz more to be succesful, which is exactly what happened.

    Sinners:

Reggie Bush: Bush is the lone sinner this week and it isn't for any reason other than he simply didn't seem focused out there. Granted S.F. defense did an excellent job of containing him when he did get his hands on the ball. He seemed to be getting frustrated and I think that kind of took him out his game. Bush is talented and having his best season so far. He'll be called upon a lot this season and with Deuce back to carry the heavy load, I have no doubt Bush will be a serious threat to other teams jsut like the 2006 season.

Well that's this weks Saints and Sinners. I'm hoping the latter part is as short like this every week. If the Saints can get some more starters healthy they'll continue to put up impressive numbers and win lots of games.
