Bucks want to keep Sessions, ditch Charlie V. Jennings to blame?

Sunday, July 5, 2009, 09:08 PM EST [General]

My immediate thought about this is that Brandon Jennings has shot himself in the foot with this deal. Milwaukee had enough cash to try to keep one of their restricted free agents. They could keep either Charlie V, or Ramon Sessions, but not both.

The early thoughts were that it would be Charlie V, as he improved a lot last year, while with Brandon Jennings coming into the team, Sessions was viewed as expendable.

Suddenly, things have changed. Jennings made a fool of himself on Youtube, and is showing his intense immaturity. Has he forgotten who the coach of Milwaukee is? Skiles is not the kind of guy that responds well to knuckleheads. Neither is Andew Bogut, who is the kind of "no dickheads" player that you would expect to come out of Australia.

And so, with the newcomer suddenly illustrating that already he is not prepared for the job, the bucks were forced to keep their flawed point guard and let go of the scoring forward.

To be honest, Mbah A Moute is a better defender than Charlie V and will now be the starter. This will help cover up for Bogut's inefficiency at the defensive end of the court, though he certainly doesn't have the shooting range you'd like, he will do the job admirably.

If Sessions can learn to play acceptable defense (instead of just gunning for steals all of the time) he could turn into a very good player indeed. A healthy year from the rest of the team would also see the bucks challenging for a playoff spot.

It will be interesting to see how this all pans out. Who thinks the bucks have made the right choice?

Jefferson to the Spurs for old people.

Tuesday, June 23, 2009, 03:41 PM EST [Richard Jefferson]

Well, the Bucks have made their intentions for this year very clear. They're not going to even try to compete. Despite the returns of Redd and Bogut from injury they have gotten rid of their third wheel, Richard Jefferson, simply because he costs too much money. In return they get an aging argentinian center who can't get up anymore, he does set good screens though. They also get crazy eyes, another ancient center/forward who will be good for maybe 5 minutes a game, and they also get Old Man Bowen, who is now strictly a set shooting three point specialist who needs a zimmer frame. None of these guys will be with the Bucks next year, thus saving the team about $15million in salary next season. Or at least it will until they re-sign Ramon Sessions and Charlie V for 7 million each this year. That would be a bad idea. They should be using those two as bait for a sign and trade as neither of them plays enough D to make Milwaukee any better than it was last year. The team already has enough defensive holes. Bogut is not a good defender, Redd is terrible on D, and both Sessions and CV are liabilities on defense. Gambling for steals does not a good defender make. Either the bucks get rid of Redd for a good quality player that can play D, or they lure in some defensive presence with the afore mentioned powder puffs, or they'll be going where they went last year for a few more years. The lottery. Kudos to the Spurs for picking up a defensive studd who can also score points and has learnt to shoot from outside. He will be a great compliment to Duncan and Parker, but like Tony and Manu, he is ALSO a slasher. The move also raises some other roster questions for the Spurs. So who's going to be taking the outside shots that will inevitably be generated by all the drive and kicks? Matt Bonner? Michael Finley's ghost? And who is going to back up Timmy? He's been worn down by so many minutes banging away in the post that he's gotten old before his time. Now they just traded away all their backups. The spurs will need to make another move to make this work properly. Their court balance won't be right with this. Thoughts?

Draft Rumours: What has me excited

Sunday, June 21, 2009, 04:06 PM EST [Tayshaun Prince]

I am really excited about some of the moves that could happen on draft night. As usual, i'm more excited with the possibilities surrounding draft day moves than I am about the actual draftees. This year is especially interesting with nobody wanting to be involved from pick number 2 down. The grizzlies will probably draft Thabeet, bad shoulder and all, and have him compete against Marc Gasol. That will be a total flop and the wrong situation for Thabeet. After that, it's a crapshoot. Will the kings wheel and deal? Will OKC take Rubio just to be difficult? Will the Grizzlies take him instead and in doing so turn the draft on its head? What will Joe Dumars do with all of that cap space he engineered? Is he really going to trade Tayshaun Prince? What will Houston do with T-Mac? The latest rumour has Yao going to Cleveland..... For what?? There would HAVE to be a third team involved in anything like that, and there's no way Houston loses its cashcow for Ben Wallace and change. And the Wizards are madly trying to trade out of that number 5 pick. Maybe they'll give it up to new york since they're hungry to get Stephen Curry? I can't wait for the 25th. I'd be interested to see everyone's favorite rumours for draft day.

    Draft Musings - What Gives?

Thursday, June 18, 2009, 03:47 PM EST [Patrick Mills]

What gives with the lack of respect Patty Mills is getting in this years draft? Some of the stiffs that are being listed as first round draft picks ahead of him are ludicrous. This guy has done nothing but improve every single year. He works incredibly hard, and kicked serious ass during the Olympics for Australia. He's faster than every point guard in the draft. Want evidence? Watch how he made Chris Paul look like he was jogging during their matchup at the Olympics. Anyone who sleeps on this guy is going to hurt themselves. If he falls to the second round, somoene is going to be getting a serious sleeper. Oh, and a shout out to my man, Joe Ingles, 6-9 athletes who can handle the rock, shoot and pass don't come around often. Just cos he plays in the NBL doesn't mean he has any less potential. He's at the same level Turkoglu was at when he entered the league right now. I bet he doesn't even get drafted. Rant over. Hoping the wizards pull off a nice trade.
