London would be Super for Super Bowl

I was surprised to hear so much backlash from folks upon hearing about that the NFL was having discussions about possibly bringing the Super Bowl to London. First off, it's just discussions and it hasn't happened yet. But let's suppose it does happen? I don't see what the big deal is by having the game played elsewhere. The game is always at a nuetral site and for the most part, most of the people at the game aren't even fans of the two teams playing. The Super Bowl is a gigantic corporate party where these monster companies marketing with the league and television entitle them to get the majority of the tickets to America's biggest game. So we can rule out alienating the fans as an excuse to be upset, because the real fans are at home watching on TV. For all the corporate tickets that are out there and the people that receive them, I would think that a trip to London would be quite different and special from all the regular boring places that the Super Bowl goes to. Miami is nice, as is New Orleans, but come on, Detroit? Minnesota? Tampa? and the worst place ever, Jacksonville? And since the game is only allowed to go to a city that has an NFL team, we can't use Los Angeles, or even a city like Las Vegas that actually has enough hotel rooms to accomodate an event like the Super Bowl. London can handle it for sure. The fans would love it over there and actually feel honored to have an event of that type of magnitude there. The English were overwhelmed with pride when the NFL started playing real games there instead of the early pre-season games where the stars played two series and no one cared who won. The Super Bowl would be the hottest ticket in London since the Beatles played at the Palladium. The new Wembley Stadium is very capable of holding the event. 90,000 seats with with a retractable roof, which will have to be closed because London is very cold in February. The only problem I see with the game being played there is the time difference. The NFL has started the Super Bowl at 6:25 eastern time forever. If they wished to keep that time, the start time in England would be 11:25 pm, not exactly an ideal time for anyone to go anywhere for anything, especially considering most have to work Monday morning. I can't see the league budging on the start time just because of the giant committment the league has with the networks who want the game to peak in prime time, whose spnsors want maximum esposure in prime time. I like the idea and hope it happens. Even without a ticket, I would go just to watch the game in a pub there with some lads and have a pint. Good time for sure!
