    Napoleon Kaman is Dynamite

Tuesday, May 2, 2006, 05:14 PM EST [General]

Bumblees shouldn't fly but they do and Chris Kaman sure doesn't look fleet footed but he is.  If you watched the LA Clippers put the Denver Nuggets away last night you noticed a big blonde-long-haired center with the body language of a sack of potatos somehow gravitate towards the ball, grab rebounds and dunk with the authority of a Baptist minister slamming the door on sin who ran the floor inexplicably well.

Kaman hasn't met a mold he hasn't broken
"Kaman's posse consists of three guys from Grand Rapids, Mich., who don't drink and, mostly, just cook.  Kaman hasn't cut his hair in two and a half years and Sam Cassell says Kaman is "like a far-away island, farther than Hawaii, way, way out there."
Los Angeles Times' writer Bill Plaschke

    His shoes were untied
Kaman was no slouch in college in 2003 he led the Chippewas to a NCAA tournament bid, was ranked 13th in the nation in scoring, 4th in rebounding, 10th in blocks, and in double-doubles with 25.
One of only five college players in the country to average at 20 points and 10 rebounds.  He's quick too.
"At the beginning of every season, we have the kids do a mile run.  This particular season, Chris...just keeps on pulling away from the field. He beat everyone by 100-plus yards--and, I swear to you, his shoes were untied."
Central Michigan University Basketball coach Jay Smith

Look up in the sky it's a bird, its a plane, its Chicken Boy
Family is also important to Kaman his parents attended every home game he played in college and most of the road games.
Accordng to Wikipedia at college Kaman was known for being very fond of chickens from time spent in his childhood on a chicken farm.  His desire to eventually fund a chicken farm in Michigan was the pivotal reason he decided to go pro a year early.

Kaman was drafted 6th in the 2003 NBA draft by the Clippers.

You gotta grab the brass ring in life

"...the NBA is trying to determine after Kaman's claim that Evans grabbed his testicles and "pulled hard" during Saturday's NBA playoff game in Denver."
    Associated Press

"One of the refs said he would have knocked [him] out. It was crazy."
    Chris Kaman

"When I saw it on TV, it was like, 'Wow, I asked the referees about it at halftime, and Jess Kersey, who has been in the league for [29] years, said he's never seen anything like it."
    Clippers guard Sam Cassell

As noted here in a prior  post it wasn't just a flagrant foul it was a mugging. Kaman certainly handled the incident as well as can be expected.

Kaman has a bright future in a league filled with fake celebrity, he's the genuine article, a tough guy who played game 4 after spending all day rehydrating with an IV stuck in his arm and last night in a shimmering universe of Kobe Bryant's, LeBron James' and Allen Iverson's he proves there's still room for another galaxy, a galaxy shaped like a chicken with a big heart.
