Question: How and when did you love your first NFL team?
Let me answer: One of three ways (OK maybe more):
1. Geography --people who live by O' Hare like the Bears, kids with parents in prison like the Raiders, etc.
2. Winning--- you sunshine patriots make me queezy
3. Some player endeared you to the team, usually a great player
Now colllege can be the same, or it can be much deeper.
I love BYU more because of what the players are expected to live up to. Its called an honor code, kind of like a military branch. I find that noteworthy and honorable. Like the Army or Navy, or say, David Robinson.
I liked the Stealers because they had three BYU players on defense. (plus Randle El from my other alma mater, IU) . Seattle only had one BYU player on offense, and he wasn't activated.
But in three more years, Pittsburgh may have none of those guys and I like Indy by geography.
Do you see my dilemma? The NFL doesn't require as much loyalty as college. A college stands for something more, and the NFL is quite mercenary and at times, overly selfish like TO. (yes, Mr. Owens aka Benedict)
I like the game, but not so much on Sundays.
The sabbath was instituted six thousand years ago. I want to observe with my family more and save football for other days of the week.
Yeah, I got problems.
Plus I love IU and Hoeppner may get more wins in Septmeber than the B-ball team the rest of the regular season now.
Pity me.
Go Hoosiers.
Oh yeah, and may the best NFL team win. Next year.
