About Me: I have lived in different areas and am faithful to their passions, give or take. Born and raised in Bloomington, Indiana (1970-1989). Knight was a central figure. I then lived in Chile, where soccer became impressed upon me more than before. Returned to South America in 2005 with my then small family of wife and two girls.
I love American football, b-ball, baseball, and more sports...

The Real "Evil Empire", CFA Style

Saturday, September 2, 2006, 11:30 AM EST [College Football]

The Wolverines are actually minions of Darth Sidious...Lord of the Sith.

People refer to the New York Yankees as the Evil Empire, half resentfully and half jokingly. In my world, there is a major one, plus a few others, including Miami, USC and now Texas. And of course Ohio State and whoever else dominates my teams and the national polls, championship banners and popular love...

The best-supported of the Michigan varsity teams is the football team. Michigan's football program is among the most successful in college football history. Michigan won the first Rose Bowl game in 1902, has won an NCAA-record 849 games through the 2005 season, and has an all-time winning percentage of .745, also an NCAA record. The Wolverine football program has claimed 11 national titles: 1901, 1902, 1903, 1904, 1918, 1923, 1932, 1933, 1947, 1948 and 1997. [This is copied and posted from Wikipedia]

Obviously there are some other ringers to mention: Penn St., Florida St., Oklahoma, even Army...

It is ironic that my alma mater, Brigham Young University, hangs its only national championship season on a weak U of M team back in 1984 at the Holiday Bowl.

BYU should win a few more rings in the next century. But to catch up will all those all-time wins? Not even Miami or Florida State will have an easy time doing it... And I think Notre Dame is second.

I want a list of all time winning programs, a la the ESPN Almanac...

Suggestions for a website? ESPN Almanac?

Then there is my home state alma mater, Indiana University. The last win was in 1987 (I saw the second half, live!) and that had been the first Hoosier victory in a LONG TIME. The all-time W/L record between these two is embarrassing, as is their record with most other programs barring maybe the Buckeyes...

And who is that one guy who always brings down the three story extension Wolverine flag to Bloomington? I have seen you since at least the 1980s...The Bo Shembechler days.

Michigan leads Vandy in the 3rd quarter, gunning for win # 850, 13 to 7...

    They did win.

More references to cool CFA stuff...
