    CAN I GET AN AMEN?

Sunday, October 22, 2006, 02:31 AM EST [NBA]

I love my wife. Love my kids. Have a good life.  In fact when you consider that 1 in10 people will go to  bed hungry almost every day for whatever the rest of their lives amounts to, I have a great life.

But I must confess I haven't been a happy camper for some time now. Call it greed. Call it shallowness. Call it stupid. It's all those things but to be completely honest I haven't been all that thrilled with a single day during the NBA offseason.

Oh sure I glanced at the baseball standings to see how the Dodgers were doing during the season and I might watch a game or two of the series if I remember that what time it's on.

I admit that being a Dallas Cowboy fan for more than thirty years, I kinda been keeping an eye on them this year but only because I would enjoy watching the self destruction yet again of  T.O. when it comes. Otherwise I can live with however the NFL season turns out and whoever wins the superbowl.

I'd rather play online poker for play money chips than to watch hockey and I'd rather play solitare than to watch golf or tennis. I'd probably choose mowing the yard over watching bowling, syncronized swimming, soccer or curling.

Perhaps it's because of a personal up close first hand knowledge of the hyprocisy and routine never ending violations of virtually every rule governing college sports that I have no favorite college sports not even my alma mater nor the sport in which I played.

Perhaps if I were a any sport any time, lets get a case of beer and watch penguins pole vault type of guy, I wouldn't  be so depressed half of every year. But I'm not.

What I am is a NBA fanatic. Yeah I'm a lifelong Laker fan. But even when my team doesn't win the title I'm still glued to the tube watching the playoffs and the finals. And the second David Stern presents the trophy I am depressed until the tipoff of the first game of the next season.

And we're almost there. 9 days as I type this until the cavalry arrives. Until once again, the depression leaves, the fog lifts, hope springs eternal,  the day comes when my team and your team and his  team and her team and their team is going to be either 1-0 or 0-1 and we have "only" 81 more games until our team "roars" into the playoffs.

Thank you Lord for this blessing we are about to receive.

    Can I get an amen?
